I live in an area where my closest neighbor is about 1/4 mile away. We have always had problems with people dumping cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies. I have rescued many of them or tried to find homes for them.I can only afford so much and believe me my feed bill is off the charts.
But now they are dumping roosters. I thought my rooster was loose in the driveway but he looked small to me. I got closer and realized it wasn't him. I finally cornered the little guy and caught him. I put him in an a small area that was fenced in by himself with a little coup. I didn't want my 3 big roosters to beat him up.
Well I went out to close then all up and couldn't find him. He had flown out and was in the big chicken house roosting with some of the girls....and I have quite a few pretty hens ....you can't blame him. So I left him there for the nite. I will just have to make sure I open the coup early in the morning so he doesn't get hurt.
Anyone looking for a cute rooster with a beard ??? He's not a big chicken but not quite a little banty either. He kinda reminds me of my salmon favorelle rooster.
This is the 9th rooster dumped here so far. Wish they would start dumping beef cows, dairy cow, good used cars, money........lol.

Do you have enough hens for the roosters to each have their own harem? Usually each rooster likes to have his own harem. Sometimes they fight over the girls and sometimes all of the roosters want the girls which could lead to some injured hens. Bless your heart, I would have done the same thing though. I bet he is a handsome little guy! I agree, if they are going to donate critters the least they could do is send them with a dowry to boot!!

I have quite a few hens. I am just worried the big roosters will end up killing him. He's little compared to them and I have 3 of them. I think I have a total of 30 girls and they have about an acre to run in plus they go through the fence into to goat pasture. So at least he can run for the hill if he has to I guess. I am working on finding him a new home. Lisa I know your hens want a rooster....lol.
I have a friend who is going to come and look at him tomorrow if I can catch him again. Last time I seen him he was way back in the goat pasture crowing his head off. Well gotta run and do chores.

Linda I told Jim about your rooster & he said we should get him.. I told him I want to be able to sleep in.. He said he didn't think a rooster would stop me..HA! Anyway, if we get him, I would call him "Mr Big" |

Linda!
I'd take him in a heartbeat, but sadly am in NC My ladies have been rooster-less for a couple months now. I have a hen who bats for both teams. She lays eggs, but has killer spurs and sometimes crows. i have even caught her doing the little happy dance around another hen. It may have been a dominance thing.
We are surrounded by acres and acres of woods, so anything that would be dumped near us would get lost or harassed by all the owls.

That's terrible. I can't believe people can just dump animals. I gave my roosters away just the other day because a (stupid) city ordinance doesn't allow roosters. If I couldn't find them a home they would have sucked it up and made soup. Dumping animals is so irresponsible. |
