I have been watching a lot of RFD-TV lately when I am doing my hand sewing at night. I record the shows during the day when Nora is up, and then enjoy them guilt free at night.

Does anyone else watch these types of shows? I find them very inspirational and they make me want to go learn more since of course they can't show all the intricacies in one half hour show.

One thing that has been really nice is the "click" that I have been getting a few times. There have been times when I was taking lessons and a concept wasn't really clicking. I just didn't get it. And then one of these trainers that has a show might be talking about it and seeing some one else riding and explaining the concept helps it click.

I am watching Clinton Anderson right now. I really enjoy his sense of humor and is loving but implacable way with the horses. He is getting a very dominant and unruly horse to learn to sidestep right now which is amazing because when the person brought in the horse, it was balking at any sort of leading pressure and would not respect space or any commands really.

I just went to Clinton Anderson's Walkabout tour at the conyers horse park just last weekend. I had a ton of fun and he is a really nice guy to talk to. I spoke to him very briefly. (2min) We are using his methods right now to retrain a new horse (10 yr old red roan quarter horse) that we just got. He's been in the pasture too long and thinks that he's to boss. We are working on manners in the saddle. On the ground and leading he is a great horse but in saddle he is a stinker. So he has come very far and finally got a little girl confortable enough on him to ride a very good right this morning. I just purchased his Gaited Horsemanship at the tour. I haven't finished watching it yet but so far in Disc 1 I've enjoyed it. I love RFD-TV.

Clinton Anderson's website is
www.downunderhorsemanship.com

And if the fact that he is amazing with horses doesn't clinch it for you, he is kind of cute and has that luscious Australian accent! :D Who says a farmgirl can't have it all

Ayako- I am so very jealous that you got to go to his tour and even got to meet him! Wow! That is so great! I want to join the club on his website. It's $20 a month though so maybe after I actually _get_ my horse! LOL

No I don't know a Mary Alice. I actually live about 60 miles from the Conyers horse park in Kennesaw GA. It was my first time at the Olympic Horse park. It was a great place to go.

My dad is addicted to RFD-TV! My DH used to make fun of him and then admitted if we had cable he would be to!

The Parellis are in Kansas City on Sept 20th and we're attending their show for free. Can't wait! An ad in Horse Illustrated listed a code for obtaining tix for free! I'll be happy to pass along the code if anyone else is interested in attending a show in KC or anywhere else...check out the website to see tour stops!

Me, too. I watch RFD-TV and I love the horse training shows, and BullRiding. Did you ever see the Quilt lady? She is a hoot.

I love RFD-TV too...and also Clinton Anderson! I got to see him do a seminar in person last year and he is amazing...love his sense of humor and how great he is with the horses. Alee, when you get the chance, go to see him at a Horse Expo...it's fun!

Marly- I recorded one of the quilt shows...and then our DVR updated and deleted it. Now I am rationing my TV watching as homework is invading every aspect of my life! Hopefully over Christmas break I might be able to crawl out of my hole and learn some new crafting things!

Kim- I would love to see him in person!!

I like watching the horse training shows too. I'm not going to buy anything but I like seeing how other trainers do their stuff. Also, you can watch the BIG name riders on youtube and learn tons. I would never get to see any European shows or riders unless on satellite and so youtube ahs been my go-to place. Check out Jane Savoie's videos. She is very clear and concise and I just can't say enuf how she explains english riding to me (I'm cowgirl and sometimes english just doesn't connect in my brain!) Such as the halt halt...she very competently explains it and shows a rider doing so. Now I get it!

DH tapes a lot of them and watches. I'm not into them much personally. I've got a terrific trainer here that I work with. In fact, one of those RFD boys comes up here and takes cutting lessons (and has purchased horses from) my trainer. Same trainer has had his hydra bull featured on CA's show, too.

My problem with clinicians, I guess, is that so many people get hung up and feel they can't progress without following the mold set by their fave trainer. I see it a lot with Parelli. A friend of mine wants to do the mustang challenges, but she's afraid she hasn't got the skill because she's not gotten whatever level certificate. Her horses take years of ground work because she's so afraid of not doing it like Pat...which is a huge shame, but the Parelli's sure make a lot of money with folks like her!

Don't get me wrong...I think they all have something to offer and you can glean bits of information from everyone. Just don't fall into the trap where you begin to worship them as the horse gods...

Tracey I here you, I love to watch all trainiers and I take what I want from them. Everyone can do what they do if you spend enough time with your horse. Remember all horses have diffrent personalities and diffrent things worth with diffrent horses. Vicki
