Hi! I'm getting married in October for the third (and final!) time. I finally found the "farmboy" of my dreams.......ok, he's an electrician, but when he's not wiring up grain dryers he loves to be working on my farm; puttering in the garden, fixing up roofs, helping me can. So, we're getting married October 4th at a small wedding chapel nearby and it will be a very small, informal wedding with the reception afterwards at the farm where we'll have BBQ pork, homemade salsa and all sorts of yummy go-withs. My biggest dilemma is what to wear. He's wearing Khaki pants and a blue striped shirt. I've decided I want a blue dress but I"m having an awful time deciding on style. I don't want it formal or fancy, just comfortable and country. I can sew if I can't find one to buy. Any suggestions???
I'd also love suggestions on outdoor decorating for the reception.

How about a cute little blue cocktail dress with cowgirl boots? Got to have your own style. I am so excited for you. You could add a nice denim jacket over the top after the wedding, since it will be October. You could decorate it whatever moves you.

Congrats Deb, Oh I like what Heather said about the outfit for after the wedding.
Both my girls had an outdoor country weddings and reception , it was purfect weather on both weddings, thank goodness.
At the oldest dd wedding we top over a 12 ft round stock tank, put white linen with an overlay. Added a big fruit and flower filled centerpiece with all the food around it. Everyone just walked around filling their plates. The cake was placed under an arbor made of limbs covered wild grapevines that my sister made, It was beautiful.
Both girls had a violinest, flutest, and harpest play for their weddings.
You could use lots of candles even if its in the daytime. Sets for a warm feeling.
You could use the beautiful colors of autumn in decorating, wow what a great time to get married. If you really go country you can even use straw bales for seats toss on a comfy cover, have a bonfire and celabrate your new lives together.
Bot girls got married in May, one had a big tent and the other was out inthe open. Bot with large ponds and one had an island. It was beautiful and the girls pretty much did it themselves.
I got to blog about the wedding this year and it was just lovely. DD rented a wooden dance floor under the tent, and we get a rug.

Also I think Mary Janes Farm magazine has some good ideas too. Wish I had known about MJ when DD where planning their weddings.

Deb....do you like Broom Skirts? I hope you know what they are...if not let me know and I will try to find a picture of one for you. They are popular in the SW ....You could wear one of those in a blue or Turquoise color and a really nice lacey style whilte blouse......The Broom Skirts also look Great with cowboy boots! A nice flowered wreath in your hair would be lovely too!

You all have to be the coolest bunch of gals ever. Someone gets on here and says "what should I wear for my wedding?" and you go on line and find something for her to wear. I have never had a sister but I think this is about as close to that as one can find only long distance. WAY TO GO!!!!!!

Janneane- My mom is here on the forum too. She has coordinated many weddings, and did a fabulous job on mine just a year ago. She has been out of town for several days, but I will forward this topic to her. She will be able to give you fabulous ideas!

Ha! Thanks Melanie for adding the stick onto my broom! I realized that it is a shortened version I always use, but the true name for the skirts are Broomstick and they do indeed have LOTS on ebay!

oops! It's not me getting married, did that 19 years ago and think I'll keep this one a bit longer. I think a farm wedding is just a dream come true. You go girl. Whatever you dicide to wear just have a fun day!!!

Hi all! I'm having computer issues and didn't realize that this posted twice, but I guess that just means more great replies! I do like the idea of a broomstick skirt and boots.....I had actually thought of that as I have a pattern for the skirt and a coordinating top that has a loose vest style top to go with it. I'm a curvy girl, so altho I like the idea of a cocktail dress, the broomstick skirt is a better style for me. I'll have to find the picture to show you all.
We're getting married in a little wedding chapel about 40 miles away, so that parts easy......$170 covers the minister, chapel, flowers, and organist and I just have to show up! The catch is that it's very small and my fiance's family is huge (he has 5 brothers, his dad has 11 siblings, his mom has 10!) and this is his first, so it's just family for the wedding itself. Then we'll be out at my farm (8 acres of woods, falling down buildings, and a 106 year old farmhouse that is a work in progress. We have a 16 x 16 canvas tent we'll set up for food in case it's rainy. The menu is BBQ pork, potato salad, chips and homemade salsa, and cheesecake with a variety of toppings. Yes, I'm doing all the food myself; but that's easy as I cook for 350 every day, and I can do all the food ahead of time. Then we'll have a bonfire going and lots of chairs and wood stumps and benches for seating around......I do like the idea of hay bales and I'm going to see if I can find some. I have a friend who plays bagpipes who will come out for awhile.....the reception is from 6 pm until everybody gets tired and goes to bed. I have many friends who make wine, so I'm sure we'll have plenty to pass around the fire.

Congrats!
A friend of mine got married this summer and they used corn, wheat and soybeans for the decorations and flowers! It was so cool. She spread it on the tables, used them in candle holders, even did the men's flower - not even going to try to spell it - with wheat and corn husks (very manly). The guest even through corn when they left the church (kernels - not cobs!)
They also took the wedding party away from the church on a hay rack with straw bales covered in quilts pulled by her Dad's JD B!
