What do you do with a big bag of wild hair naked Barbie dolls? I was just about ready to toss em, they were my girls when they were young and they really didn't like dolls, but sure gave them a good run through. Big hair all over the place , most of them are half dressed the others naked. Some even got their toes chewed off : P. From either our young DD or the puppy.

Well I just couldn't toss them, so had a thought of making Mary Jane Farmgirls out of them. Make em Farmgirls. They'll love it. So I washed one with hair (some got hair cuts from our girls ) some are baldies. Even cream rinse so I could run a comb through.

Whipped up an apron, oh don't look at workmanship, I used my big working sewing machine used for upholstery fabric. Plus didn't even bother to match threads. I'll use my little light weight Singer for doll clothes later.

I think this will be fun putting back all these Barbies. My grandgirls will love them and they can work on making them any type of Mary Jane Farmgirls they like. Plus playing with dolls there mom and aunt played with.

This one is called Farmgirl Barbie the Herb Gatherer.
Oh she is backside naked under that apron, got to stitch up some garden clothes for her. And find some boots. Maybe I can knit up a Mary Jane hat for her too

Not sure what the purple headed Barbies will become on the farm , but we'll think of som'in. Oh how about an Outpost Farmgirl Barbie : ). I got a bag full of them and there screamin , Let Me Out!!!

Break time over , back to my real job : )

Oh, how cute!!
I collected a bunch of darkhaired exotic looking Barbies and made them into Indian maidens with suede outfits and seed beads. So much you can do rather than discarding the little cuties.

I love them! I have a big collection of Barbie sewing patterns. Do you need any? I am thinking about the one with old fashioned overalls on it. Let me know if you need a pattern. I don't use them, but I love dolls, especially re-purposed already loved ones. :-)
Great idea!!

They are absolutely adorable! Much better than some of the very skimpy outfits they sometimes come in!

I have some dolls that are even smaller than Barbie and I put mini aprons on from the mini apron swaps. I use the same idea and just hide their naked backside..LOL
When the apron is pulled up and tied around the neck it looks like a sundress.

Maybe we can have a fun swap of re-purposed Barbie farmgirl dressed doll! Just for fun. They could make a nice Christmas gift or just for fun (I'd love one).

Glad you didn't toss them. I kept my sister's first barbie, Dreadlock Barbie. She has natty hair and one leg from a puppy attack.

Cute idea!! All of my girl's barbies (there were alot!) recently went to a friend's 7 year old daughter...I will have to make her some aprons for a couple of them and see what she thinks! Great idea!

Cute idea!

I made a Riot Grrl Barbie years ago. If you've got some with purple hair already, you're halfway there.

Wow great comments and ideas

Bonne thank you, the Indian maidens would be awesome and I know beautiful

Firemama thanks , I'm thinkin of some more Farmgirl outfits , but not today, got to work on my real job. I'll post when I get some done.

Mumof3 thanks , I had to do the scarf, she had some bangs that would not lay down.

yarnmamma thank you ,hang on to those patterns, there may be others that will need them to. I was just going to whip up clothes but if you got patterns, super. The overall's sound great. I would be interested in your patterns, thank you.

dutchy thanks I wish I had my one and only Barbie when I was a kid around 9 or 10 to. I'm 55, but not for long. My barbie had black puffed hair with a black and white swimsuit.

oldfashioned girl, thanks, oh I so agree, some of those outfits. Well we'll change that , lol.

deeredawn thank you , but I best keep my day job, lol

yarnmamma, oh my gosh smaller then Barbie . Oh I bit those aprons are darling.

Jami, thanks, you know I just learned about those American Dolls just last year, guess i've been in the woods to long. They are wonderful. Good cause , save the whale or something, for a Barbie sale.

yarnmamma, Thanks ,you know that might just be fun, you going to start it

one_dog_per_acre Oh my ,your sisters Barbie could be a mail carrier, if you know what I mean , (all my dog bite)

Back Home Again Thanks for stopping by my blog, the grandkiddies haven't been over to see it yet. We plan to have a Camp Grandma and we'll play and dress up those Farmgirl Barbies. The popcorn popper worked just great. Hope you find one.

Nancy Gartenman Thanks you , get out your Barbies and start the new look [: )]

Aunt Jenny Thank you, making aprons will be fun and you and your friend can share to her 7 yr old that Farmgirl Barbie can wear her apron with power and pride just like us big Farmgirls can.

Brew Crew I can see why the smaller the clothes the more they cost. I'm use to sewing bigger things like slipcovers in my line of work. The big sewing machine is a challenge to work those tiny cloths. Esty, LOL Like I said up a few lines, I'm keeping my day job, lol thanks for thinking there could be a market for em.

Amie C., Riot Grrl Barbie , what a blast. Thanks for an idea on the purple headed Farmgirl Barbie

What a superb idea! You should sell it to the makers of Barbie. Since nearly 75% of farmers are women, they would go like hotcakes! What a great way to inspire little girls! Not to mention us big girls!

You are so funny! I still have all my barbies they are in a box just wanting to get out. As soon as I get the remodel done they are coming out.!!!

Linda, I was just reading your blog. Wow I love your outpost! What a great idea. Wish we had a bit more land. we do have a back pasture but right now there is a swing set in it and an amusement park size train so no outpost for me yet.

Dawn, hit a thrift store. That's where I found all of mine, since my childhood Barbie had bit the dust many a year ago.
Notice I say, "Barbie" as in singular. These days the little girls have several. My friends and I only had one.....oh, and maybe a Midge or Ken. LOL

Dawn, I forgot I ever had a Barbie and bought myself a couple of new ones a few years ago. I crocheted her an angel outfit and we tried to tie her to the top of Christmas tree but she wouldn't stay...kept leaning over and pulling the tree top down! LOL had to give up on that idea! LOL she sits around now as a resident Christmas Angel.
Dawn! maybe some of us can come up with an "already loved" doll and make a farmgirl outfit for her....! I have plenty of tiny aprons!
