My Faith. It is very important to me! I was Baptized and Confirmed this past May 11. A very very important day, for me and my friends (SORRY lol)

Health ofcourse! My oldest brother passed away due to lung cancer in Jan 2007 and my momma had severe aggressive Dementia and passed away September 2006.
So health, very important.
My kitty, also very important. My crafts and decorating my home the way I want, MY choice, MY way of living.
Finally being able to make my OWN decisions, freedom to do that, freedom to choose what I want to do, where I want to go, with whom. Freedom is everything for me now. I was never allowed to choose things for me, so now that i can and may, I DO IT TOO!
Make my own decisions, where I live, how i live, how I decorate my home, who my friends are, what family members (I have a very small family left, just 2 or 3 persons)I want to talk to etc etc.
VERY long story goes before this, but very important for me personally.

Hugs from Marian/Dutchy, a farmgirl from the Netherlands :)

Ok...forgetting the family and friends for me makes my list more materialistic I suppose...b/c F&F's are at the top of the list...this took me awhile!

That said, I have an antique vanity that I got when I was 12. It was this beat up looking old thing, with this sad looking mirror. My dad took it to a friend and he restored it for me, and I have used it since. Now, I am a farmgirl who cannot go without having the hair and makeup done, so I spend a good bit at the vanity. It's my inanimate best friend.

Surprisingly, 17 years later, my DH and I move into his Grandmothers log cabin. Now mind you, this was HARD for me...it's in the country (where I have never lived) and my closest friend lives 12 miles from me--in the same neighborhood as the rest of my girlfriends. That was sooooo hard for me; I didn't understand why would couldn't buy our dream home in the same area as the gals. Oh well! Back to it...when we moved in, all I could focus on was how dated the house was, how much it needed to be remodeled, how close (20 yards) my in-laws lived. There is no privacy in that let me tell you. I was a bit depressed, but realized that it would get better. So, when Grandmother went into the Manor, she told us that we could all pick one of her things out of the house to keep...sort of a before the will get up I guess. Allllll of her grandkids (greedy buggers) came and picked this house clean as a buzzard on roadkill. All that I wanted in this world was her upright dressing mirror--and I just knew this one biscuit cousin of DH's was going to snatch it up. (Then I would really have a reason to hate her!!!) So, it confused me when all the girls kept passing it over. Turns out, Grandmother explictly told them that the mirror was mine--even put my name in tape on the back. It matches my vanity perfectly!!!--same wood stain, mirror cut, detail...the works! So they sit on opposite sides of my bedroom...one for getting ready and the other for checking it out!!!!

Sorry so long!!!

linda darlin' .. i thunk i had answered you .. i'v gotten several requests for rag chillun in the last week .. i reeeeeeeeely gotta' go in and mark them all adopted.

what i thought i had said was that all the chillun have found homes .. that no new little ones have wandered down the road to the orphanage for awhile now (since the birth of my grande) .. but my fingers are indeed gittin' twitchy to make some more .. will definitely do that after our october 11/12 gurlfren gathering. the gurlfrenz that are askin' will get 'first pickins' .. thanks for lovin' them! xo

Definitely my faith and my health.

The other thing that comes to mind immediately are the children in Haiti that hubby and I support. It only takes a dime a day to feed a child a meal of rice and beans. Most children only get one meal a day, and that's only if they attend school. If you'd like to see videos of the trip my hubby took there in April 2007, here's the link. http://www.youtube.com/user/dkelewae

I am the human resource administrator for a children's home. Our agency has 78 children who have been removed from home due to abuse, etc. by the state. Most are waiting to be placed in foster homes and be adopted. My husband and I sponser one of the 6 cabins, The Junction, which houses the oldest boys. There are 16 boys ranging from 12-17. I go every Wednesday to help them with whatever they need, help with homework, someone just to talk to, etc. I give cooking classes and try to teach them just the everyday stuff. How to iron a shirt, etc. They call me "Mama Junction" and these boys are very important to me. I love them all and my hope is that despite what they have been through, they will be happy, productive citizens of society.

For me it's the little freedoms that we aren't aware of until we travel out of our comfort zones.

It's as big as being able to book plane flights w/ out too much difficulty and travel both in and out of this country, and as small as being able to choose where I want to go out to eat on a particular day and where I buy groceries.

On a lighter subject, having animals in my life is a must, and there will ALWAYS be a dog in my life.

Still sillier is my buckwheat pillow. When we travel and I can't bring it, IT IS SOOOOO missed! I just sleep waaaay better and more restful.

And sillier yet is...it's iportant for me to alwyas have Puff's Plus tissues in the house. My nose constantly runs (year round allergies) so no matter where or how far we go, there are ALWAYS Puff's Plus somewhere on my person

Something that is extremely important to me:

Well, after family and friends of course......EDUCATION is EXTREMELY important to me! By that I mean education for the young people....Making learning, education, schooling, etc. fun for children. Making them learn to love the sport of education and what it does for them in the future!!!! Looking at the whole thing in a positive light rather than negative...That's what's important to me...

And the heavier things mportant to me are, family, friends and the ability to choose my own faith and not have to worry about the military locking me up and torturing my family because I don't agree w/ (so many) senseless government policies.

Look up our constitution, pray we continue to defend all of these and hold them near and dear to our hearts. And to keep fighting for what's right.

The day we don't and choose to lay down and give up, is the day we are taken over and it all disappears.

And lastly, having a mighty military backing us is a huge necessity for me. These men and women who VOLUNTEER to protect us are so essential. There are forces that would seek to crush us and demolish the democracy and freedoms we sometimes take for granted.

There are lots of things important to me. Teaching, serving the community, quiet time in the mountains, being able to create through many art mediums.... BUT the two most important "things" I can think of are

#1 - my porch swing. It signifies being grounded, rooted, which I have not ever had before living in this house. It's MY place. I sit on the swing when I need to be alone, enjoy the sunshine, read a book, visit with friends, chat with the kids, etc. I even pulled a string or two with the city shops guys when they were going to put a school sign up directly in line with my view of the mountain from the swing.

#2 - My gramma's biscuit bowl. It's an old and rather flat wooden bowl she made the most wonderful southern buttermilk biscuits in every morning. She taught me how to make biscuits many years ago - no recipe just eyeballing things. She passed away a couple of months ago and my parents sent me her bowl, rolling pin, sifter and the ol' ratty green tin she kept her biscuit making supplies and flour in. The bowl was always in the flour tin. I love my bowl because it's what represents my sweet grandma to me. Haven't made biscuits in it yet because I have to do it on a day where I can have a good cry.

THose are my two extremely important things....

My needlework. Crochet and knit and being able to sew!
I don't think I've seen these written about yet, unless I missed it.
I think needlework is meditation and good for calming and the brain is busy without having to worry-think.
I am enjoying this thread.

Aunt Jenny,
Your Mona reminds me of Mama cow. About 5 years ago we lived on a farm that the owners kept about 10 cows on the pasture. We watered them daily. There was one cow who was clearly the alpha cow. We called her Mama. She had the biggest eyes. We fed her apples from the tree and talked with her like she was a member of the family. I miss her.

Blessings, Debra

Brenda-I was a foster parent for many years, so I fully understand the importance of what you're doing for those young men.

I fully believe that the children are our future, and that we must take great care to insure that they are safe, healthy, and educated.

this isn't a thing, I love organization. I am a Virgo through and through and organizing is my name. BUT the home I live in with my mum is NOT organized because we house other peoples stuff. I love a house that is organized. I love to keep even my phone, car, email organized. It just makes me feel good and relaxed and in control. I am not a neat freak but I appreciate it. I just went to visit my BF in NC and he has an organized house and it was soooo nice.

Every day I feel thankful for a warm bed, a roof over my house, and a full pantry. I say that in my prayers each day. They are very important to me, after the biggies of family, God, health.....

Wellllll....when I was a tad bit younger I had a bit of a potty mouth...and when I had Patrick, I realized that I needed to speak a bit more lady like. So, instead of the ahem, "Witch" word I came up with Biscuit...I picked up Bammit instead of the "D" word and Sugar, Honey, Iced, Tea for the "S" word....sometimes I inter change Shoot a Monkey for that one too. Everybody thinks that it is quite clever, so I guess that I am onto something!!
