HOORAY for McCain! What courage to choose a woman running mate...this decision is especially SWEET after the way the Dems DISSED poor Hillary after all the work she's done for our country and womenkind all over the world, etc...It gives me such HOPE for this wonderful country of ours AFTER ALL! My saying, I have pitched my tent in the Land of Hope rings especially true today!! YAYYYY!

Here's Hoping. *holds breath* I think it very cool and feel the same. I'm not very much of a Hillary fan myself but I would've rather had Hillary over Obama any day. I think it was quite good that McCain chose a woman.

I watched it, too! She's amazing...the mother of 5, just had a baby, her eldest son is in Iraq, she's pretty, her children are darling, her husband's attractive, she's changed the entire state of Alaska, they adore her...over 80% approval rating!, she is a life long member of the NRA, need I say more? Those details really stood out for me...You know, I really liked it when she said she has shaken up the "good ole boy network"! Bless her!
It seems like McCain's running the true campaign about CHANGE! Not Obama's. He chose Joe Biden, the safe choice...a man who has been in the Senate for oh, about 35 years!
Sarah Palin sounds like she is a true reformer! McCain the Maverick...I like their slogan, too.

Plus, She seems like A TRUE FARMGIRL!!

Just a friendly reminder that this might not be the best place to post something like this on this forum because there are SO many diverse views and opinions here...while I think women should feel empowered, there is a "political" machine behind every move...Personally I never vote gender, I vote policy.

I heard Gov Palin on a talk show several weeks ago and was very impressed with her. When they started talking this a.m. about she might be the vp pick, I stopped what I was doing and watched tv. All morning! Every time the phone rang, I answered YES!! Then waited to hear who was calling. I am finally excited about the upcomming election. Had lost interest when Gov Huckabee dropped out. Don't think much of McCaine but changed my mind this morning. he may be smarter than I thought. Gov Palin brings sooooo much to the ticket.

I, on the other hand. am hopeful that Obama takes the election and would not vote by gender nor attractiveness of a candidate and/or their family but rather policy. I don't mean that to be direspectful but I was shocked to see that 3 of the reasons you like her was because she or her family were pretty.

I would love to have a woman in the White House. I've said so often...."If Woman/Mother ran this country, I think we'd be a whole lot better off!"

I vote policy, too. Sarah Palin has the policy I want. In my humble opinion, I believe the farmgirls do have diverse opinions. I certainly do not believe all women or all of the farmgirls will be backing Sarah Palin, but this farmgirl will.

That's fine...but I'm saying that if it's your policy, keep it YOURS, or discuss it off the forum..it's just respectful. This isn't a political forum. In fact, I know that you are new to the forums, but if you look into forum etiquette and rules, you might find a little bit of insight into what I'm trying to say...people get their feelings hurt for much less on this forum and it would be disappointing to alienate someone without meaning to.

I don't understand. I see nothing wrong with just saying what you feel about what you believe and not arguing with anyone. I see nothing wrong with starting up a topic like this and everyone respecting others opinions. I just watched Palin's speech and am very impressed in what she _believes_ in. I, for one, was hoping Colin Powell would be named as there were some underlying quiet talks about it. I think talking about respectfully - there's nothing wrong with it.

Gosh!
Who would've thought that a newbie farmgirl couldn't say what she wanted to??? I'm feeling a little shut down suddenly...
I vote policy, too...but it certainly helps that the candidate is smart, qualifed, female AND pretty! We can still be that, can't we?
I hope everybody votes exactly however they choose to...I just hope we ALL vote.

Jonni-
I don't know if there is a policy with not posting anything controversal here or not but I didn't see any problem with this post. It is much like the homeschooling, vaccination, homebirth posts. Some people will agree with a poster and some won't, but as long as the posts stay on topic and only the posters opinion is expressed (no name calling, etc.) I don't see what the problem is.

Well, personally, I don't see anything wrong with saying what you feel, but there are a few comments written above that have been pretty challenging and singling out...and in the end, some folks just don't know how NOT to argue, and then it gets heated and then, before you know it, everyone is ticked off and it causes hurt feelings and the thread gets locked. I've yet to see any discussion of this election on here on the forum because I think we've all pretty much hated it when it happens.

Picking a woman for VP by McCain is interesting. This after he says women should not be paid the same as men for the same work. IMHO, quite a contradiction. Besides we can't all be old white men!

I can't believe somebody didn't say anything about me spelling qualified.. qualfified! I found that really comical! I guess I was typing so fast I didn't notice it earlier!
I want to offer a sincere apology for offending anybody with my unbridled, enthusiastic response to the VP nomination.
I was totally unaware that this was an unacceptable topic of conversation on the farmgirl forum.
P. S. Thanks for the welcome from LilWing, too.

I agree with Elizabeth .. Why can't we talk about this? I am not hurt or mad if someone votes for Obama. LOL.

And I am not so pro McCain but like his thoughts a bit more than Obama. I just cannot vote to put a guy in Office who voted pro partial birth abortion - for that stance on it's own.

It's hard to tell how people take things. I jokingly made some comments on an anti-McDonald's string that were taken the wrong way by a lady whose DH was a higher up there. I recently looked at her profile and noticed that she had not made another post since the string, which was in April or March. No one meant to hurt her feelings, but it happened anyway. I learned my lesson. It didn't make me feel good whn that string was locked. It made me feel like part of the problem.

I, too, agree with Elizabeth. As Elizabeth stated earlier, the farmgirls have had topics on several issues; homeschooling, vaccinations, homebirths, and I believe that the farmgirls have carefully discussed their opinions. I see this the same. I don't understand the part posted about being a "newbie".

I think that both religion and politics can be a very touchy subject. It's easy for emotions to run high and sometimes things can turn unfriendly without them meaning to. I think that we have been asked to be careful about discussing these subjects by Carol. I do think that we need to show kindness and courtesy to a new Farmgirl who doesn't know all the ropes. Glory is just excited to be a part of this forum as we all were when we were new. We should show her kindness and help her to learn about the forum.

Glory - welcome and we're glad that you're here with us!!!

Honestly, the best part of this is election year is that people ARE excited, passionate and hopeful and hopefully we'll ALL vote...regardless of who we believe in or what we believe in.

Kay, That is how I feel. :)
After posting how I feel on the subject of these politics and doing so hopefully with respect, I won't be speaking of them anymore for consideration of "Mary Jane's Farm" and her wishes on the board.
