This was sent to me and I thought it was too good not to pass on!
One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us.
My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was really very friendly. So I asked, 'Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!' This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, 'The Law of the Garbage Truck.'
He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they'll dump it on you.
Don't take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home,or on the streets. The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so... Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don't.
Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you take it!
Have a blessed, garbage-free day!

That is such a good analogy - I try to practice something like that in my life. I work in customer service and some days are more challenging than others, on the other hand how I treat people can really make a difference in their day too, so I try to make sure that I act the way I would like to be remembered:) Thanks for sharing that story!! Thanks, Diana. I'll be sharing this with my Holistic Health class. We've been talking about the power of positive attitude.

I love that! One of my biggest things is to make at least apparently grumpy person smile everyday. It's my own personal challenge and I have a lot of fun doing it. Recently, I had to get some records from the hospital and the man handeling my paperwork actualy told me that my order was processed more quickly than usual because I am so cheerful.

That is so true. I had never heard the garbage truck story but reminds me of the Postmistress we had a while back at our little P.O. where we have our box. Everyone said she was a real b--ch. I had never noticed. Everytime I was in there, seemed we always had something to talk about. But then I got to watching. She would be a little rough around the edges when I went in but I made a point to make conversation and always ask her something. Like I would get mail from PA and I would ask her if she had ever been to PA. Or I would get a catalog and I'd ask her if she had used one product or another. Then she started telling me stuff and suggesting that I visit places, like up the road was a real good cheese place that I had not heard about. Just stuff like that. She has passed away now but I think of her often. She was ill and none of us knew it. She was a very nice lady that probably not been given much of a chance to be nice. |

OK, I have to confess that when I read the title of this post I really thought it would be something like: The garbage truck always comes early on the morning you've forgotten to take it out. Sorry.
Actually great stories. Marcia
