While watching Joel Osteen on a dreary Sunday morning, he read a verse from the Message...
Acts 2:22?...and it was this: "I have pitched my tent in the Land of Hope"...and I loved it!
I made up a tee shirt for me and my Dad with that phrase on it...I have decided to pitch my tent and live hopefully all my days.

Favorite poem-- Elizabeth Barrett Browning- How Do I Love Thee

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of being and ideal grace.
I love thee to the level of every day's
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for right.
I love thee purely, as they turn from praise.
I love thee with the passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints. I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life; and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death

Favorite Song-- George Strait- Cross My Heart

Our love is unconditional, we knew it from the start.
I see it in your eyes, you can feel it from my heart.
From here on after let's stay the way we are right now,
And share all the love and laughter
That a lifetime will allow.

I cross my heart and promise to
Give all I've got to give to make all your dreams come true.
In all the world you'll never find a love as true as mine.

You will always be the miracle that makes my life complete,
And as long as there's a breath in me, I'll make yours just as sweet.
As we look into the future, it's as far as we can see,
So let's make each tomorrow be the best that it can be.

I cross my heart and promise to
Give all I've got to give to make all your dreams come true.
In all the world you'll never find a love as true as mine.

And if along the way we find a day it starts to storm,
You've got the promise of my love to keep you warm.
In all the world you'll never find a love as true as mine,
A love as true as mine.

i love both of those!!!!

when i retired .. i wanted to 'play' and make a few pennies with it too! my little daughter reminded me what Joseph Campbell said:

FOLLOW YOUR BLISS ... i'm not sure he followed it up with ... don't worry about the money .. blessing will come .. but that is what i decided to do .. and i was rewarded seven-fold!

not only with money but with many, many new wonderful friends and creativity and adventure and life lived! xo

Mine's kinda different - just a little thing my grandma used to say. When she wanted to say something was "a little" like I"ll be there in 'a little while', or she lives down the road 'a little ways', she would always say "a right smart bit". I loved that and I've never heard anyone else use that expression.

Favourite snippets from songs, and a sappy favourite..

And you, to whom adversity has dealt the final blow
With smiling bastards lying to you everywhere you go
Turn to, and put out all your strength of arm and heart and brain
And like the Mary Ellen Carter, rise again.
-The Mary Ellen Carter, Stan Rogers

Sometimes I get this crazy dream
That I just drive off in my car
But you can travel on ten thousand miles and still say where you are
-WOLD, Harry Chapin

What's this feeling?
My love will rip a hole in the ceiling
Givin' myself to you now from the essence of my being
And I sing to my God, songs of love and healing
-King Without a Crown, Matis Yahu

Where the earth shows its bones of wind-broken stone
And the sea and the sky are one
I'm caught out of time, my blood sings with wine
And I'm running naked in the sun
There's God in the trees, I'm weak in the knees
And the sky is a painful blue
I'd like to look around, but Honey, all I see is you.

The summer city lights will soften the night
Til you'd think that the air is clear
And I'm sitting with friends, where forty-five cents
Will buy another glass of beer
He's got something to say, but I'm so far away
That I don't know who I'm talking to
Cause you just walked in the door, and Honey, all I see is you

And I just want to hold you closer than I've ever held anyone before
You say you've been twice a wife and you're through with life
Ah, but Honey, what the hell's it for?
After twenty-three years you'd think I could find
A way to let you know somehow
That I want to see your smiling face forty-five years from now.

So alone in the lights on stage every night
I've been reaching out to find a friend
Who knows all the words, sings so she's heard
And knows how all the stories end
Maybe after the show she'll ask me to go
Home with her for a drink or two
Now her smile lights her eyes, but Honey, all I see is you

And I just want to hold you closer than I've ever held anyone before
You say you've been twice a wife and you're through with life
Ah, but Honey, what the hell's it for?
After twenty-three years you'd think I could find
A way to let you know somehow
That I want to see your smiling face forty-five years from now.

And I just want to hold you closer than I've ever held anyone before
You say you've been twice a wife and you're through with life
Ah, but Honey, what the hell's it for?
After twenty-three years you'd think I could find
A way to let you know somehow
That I want to see your smiling face forty-five years from now.
- 45 Year, Stan Rogers

HA miz amy .. that is GREAT advice!

jami .. i've always believed the 'lemonade' adage!

janet .. i LOVE both of those .. wonderful advice from eleanor .. and oh how happy we'd all be if were all grateful for the little things!

sherri .. did she also say when giving directions: "you hook a left or hook a right"? my nannie used to always say that .. and i just automatically caught onto it and use it all the time.

oh ha laura ... true! true! true!

meg .. what was the mary ellen carter line about? (a ship?)
i LOVE this one: Where the earth shows its bones of wind-broken stone

My favorite verse/saying is my tag line here. My favorite poems are Frost's "Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening" and "Two Road Diverged in a Yellow Wood." Lately, my favorite lyrics are from an older Mary Chapin Carpenter album --

In this world there's a whole lot of trouble, baby
In this world there's a whole lot of pain
In this world there's a whole lot of trouble
But a whole lot of ground to gain
Why take when you could be giving, why watch as the world goes by?
It's a hard enough life to be living, why walk when you can fly?

In this world there's a whole lot of sorrow
In this world there's a whole lot of shame
In this world there's a whole lot of sorrow
And a whole lotta ground to gain
When you spend your whole life wishing, wanting and wondering why
It's a long enough life to be living, why walk when you can fly?

In this world there's a whole lot of cold
In this world there's a whole lot of blame
In this world you've a soul for a compass
And a heart for a pair of wings
There's a star on the far horizon, rising bright in an azure sky
For the rest of the time that you're given, why walk when you can fly ?

Peace,
Georgiann

If I can stop one heart from breaking,
I shall not live in vain.
If I can ease one life the aching,
Or cool one pain,
Or help one fainting robin
Unto his nest again,
I shall not live in vain.

I like snippets like "To see a world in a grain of sand"...one of my top fav's is "Riding the gravy train with biscuit wheels." My Pop used to say that one a lot.

My favorite songs are a toss: Can't take My Eyes Off of You--and don't get me wrong, I love Frankie Valli, but I prefer Muse's version. My second favorite is a song titled "I'll Follow You Into the Dark" by Death Cab for Cutie. This is the first part of the song...

Love of mine some day you will die
But I'll be close behind
I'll follow you into the dark

No blinding light or tunnels to gates of white
Just our hands clasped so tight
Waiting for the hint of a spark
If heaven and hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the no's on their vacancy signs

If there's no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark

I like the idea that someone could love someone else so much that they would choose oblivion over getting into heaven or hell b/c the other has been denied. Wow...that's a lot of angst isn't it??

" Please understand that there is no one depressed in this house. We are not interested in the possibilities of defeat; they do not exsist."
Queen Victoria

This was one of my families mantras recently during the passing away of my husband.

chorus of favorite song during this time

"Let this journey bring a blessing.
May I rise on wings of faith.
And at the end of this long passage,
with Your likeness let me wake." Kristen Getty

another chorus
"Let my worship be strong!
Let my heart rejoice and sing.
You are God my great Redeemer,
My Refuge and my King.
As I stand prepared for battle
knowing you will fight for me.
May I sing with loud Hosannas
Resting in your arms of peace."

For tomorrow and its needs I do not pray, but keep me, guide me, love me, Lord just for today.

Sheri, my MIL was very country. She said "a right smart bit", too. And if there was any food left over, she'd say it's gone to beggin'. How neat to think of that.

My favorite song is Remember When by Allen Jackson. That song just sums it all for me. I love it.

Julia, those are wonderful verses. Thanks for sharing.

And of course I love the saying about life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain. Love that.

Moon River
Moon River, wider than a mile,
I'm crossing you in style some day.
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker,
wherever you're going I'm going your way.
Two drifters off to see the world.
There's such a lot of world to see.
We're after the same rainbow's end--
waiting 'round the bend,
my huckleberry friend,
Moon River and me.
