I have a small fenced in yard on the farm. I usually put one of my dogs he when we know we are going to be gone for a few hours or more. He has a dog house too. He is not house broken all the way yet. There are wooden stairs. He has been chewing the rails on the stairs. I was wondering if there is something I can put on the wood so he will stop chewing on the rails. I dont want to hurt him in any way so I was thinking maybe someone could tell me of something. Thanks Deborah
They have stuff called bitter apple or bitter lime that you can put on there to deter him from chewing on them. or a bit of hot sauce sometimes works. My sisters dog kept chewing and she tried everything. He didn't seem to mind any of them. she tried bengay and boy he left stuff alone them. all he had to do was sniff the stuff after that and he didn't chew on it. would'nt really recommend that drastic try the stuff they make for that first. the bitter apple stuff. Beverley ps give him something else to chew on too that is more appealing like a big soup bone that is not cooked. I give my dogs BIG soup bones all the time. If you don't cook them they are ok for a dog it is when you cook them that they can splinter.
pepper works on keeping a dog from going back near an area that is a no-no..and if a dog has a habit of wanting to piddle in your house..sprinkle pepper in the area..and they won't go there again. I had a collie once that piddle in the same area of the house twice..I then used the pepper and he never did it again. He sniffed the area then totally lost interest. He never made a mistake in the house again. I second the chew toy..but make sure it is something that doesn't splinter, or have threads that can get caught in the intestines.
