Hi farmgirls,

I stumbled upon Mary Jane's book in the library a couple of weeks ago and since then have been soaking up every page. The more I read, the more I felt like I had really found something I could connect with. Imagine my excitement when I realized that there was a whole group of you online that felt the same!!! I never imagined that I'd find a forum like this to learn from, contribute to, and build friendships. I'm so happy to be here.

A little about me... I'm a 35-year-old mom of twin girls (they'll be 2 in November). I love cooking, gardening, sewing, crafting, and well, the list goes on... I guess I can sum it up by saying I love to work with my hands and I love attempting anything homemade and/or handmade. I'm originally from Rochester, NY, but have been moving around here and there for the past several years. My husband and I bought a little house in downtown West Chester, PA and will be moving in within a month. Yes, the garden and decorating ideabooks have already been started!! We'll be in "in-town" family for a bit, but I have a feeling there's a small farm out there for us one day.

Looking forward to getting to know all of you
Susan

Hi, Susan. I'm originally from Rochester, NY (and back again currently) and I lived in the western Philly suburbs for several years.

Have you been in the Philly area long before your current move to West Chester? Have you ever visited my favorite spot in the area, Ridley Creek State Park? It's right on Rte 3, just about 10 miles east of West Chester. Beautiful creek, hiking trails, paved loop for biking and jogging. And best of all, it also contains the Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation, which is a living history museum based out of a working farmhouse from the early 1700s. Do check it out, if you haven't already. I found it shortly after I moved into my first apartment in Lansdowne, and it was like an oasis for me in the big city environment.

Wow! Thanks to all for the warm welcome!

Aimee C... where in Rochester are you from? I grew up in Pittsford, my parents still live there. And yes!...I have discovered Ridley Creek State Park - I've only been there once so far, but I totally love it. I will definitely visit the living history museum soon, it sounds neat. We currently live in Mt. Laurel, NJ but we've only been here since December. Before that, it was California for 7 years. Long story about the switch from NJ to PA but it revolves around my husband's new job. Jersey has been good, but I'm definitely looking forward to West Chester.

Susan, I'm from the actual city of Rochester. I went to St. John Fisher College, so I'm a little bit familiar with Pittsford. I hope you enjoy West Chester. I found the whole Philadelphia area rather overwhelming when I was actually there, but now of course I find myself homesick for it.

Welcome, welcome Susan,

It seems that several of us farmgirls are good stumblers-I stumbled upon MaryJane's book at a used bookstore. I snapped it up and it hasn't been snapped shut since. Hope you enjoy this forum and I look forward to getting to know you.
