Well, I am on the verge on my garden. Started tilling to get it ready, adding compost and will let it set through the winter. My small attempts at planting wherever didn't do so well when the irrigation didn't reach and I was gone. I love this time of year with all the fresh fruit and veggies. And our local nursery was having a sale on fruit trees. 50% off! I got two apple and two peach. I'm so excited. I won't plant them quite yet, but mom is now around and will keep them watered. Slowly working into a sustainable landscape on my lot. the almond tree is very exciting and I can't wait for the results later this fall. The roof is planned for wildflowers and a sitting area. SOme plants I'd like to put up there, but I have to check on the depth of the roots to be sure they don't threaten the ceiling.
You've got an almond tree? I didn't think they'd grow here in Colorado but you're close to the Banana Belt in Montrose aren't you? And apples and peaches. Yumm! I have yet to get more fruit trees in our landscape but we do have a small Italian plum that just might give us fruit this year. We've got a garden but it's so small it's only really good for fresh and maybe limited canning. I too would like a sustainable landscape and it's on the "to do list". Let me know how your almond tree does and more about your planting on your roof?
Last year I got nothing on the almond tree, but this year it is full. In talking with the folks at the nursery they said 3 out of 10 years to get a crop because a late frost comes during the flowering. This year it flowered between the cold so perfect. I'll take some pictures and try to get them on. It's not what you expect because of the husk.
