Well, I have been down with my back for over a week now. It started a week ago Friday when all I did was stand up from the breakfast table! The pain was so bad it almost knocked me on the floor, and I knew it was going to be a long week. It was.
My computer is also at Toshiba having a little surgery, so I have really been out of the loop.
So I am using this time away from the computer, and away from the daily busyness of life, to think and pray and do bible study and see what blessings come from this. Next Friday is a Dr. appt. I think it is time to see if there is anything disc related or if it is muscle problems only. I am tired of cold packs, ibuprofen and being in bed. Time for exercise and strengthening, but first I have to find out if anything is really wrong back there. So think of me, please, and thanks for letting me share all this with you!

JEANNIE, Get well soon. I read that in a greeting card, well in a lot of them actually. But I do mean it. Hope you got the heating pad out, and aspirin. Backs that are out are no fun. THINKING OF YOU. NANCY JO

Jeannie: I will keep you in my prayers. I had back pain in the past. Just awful! I don't wish that sort of pain on anyone, I'm sure you'd agree. My sister had back problems about the same time as I did, and she went to the doctor. She later told me the doctor told her the best thing for back pain was walking. Even if it's only 20 minutes a day, at least five times a week. He said the walking would lubricate her spine. Well, that made all the sense in the world to me, at that time. When my back got good enough to beable to start walking, I did!!!!!!!!!!! Jeannie, I would walk 20 minutes, rain or shine. I even walked inside the house if the rain was too bad; but I would walk for 20 minutes no matter what. I thank God in all His glory in saying that that was almost ten years ago. AMEN!!!!!!!!!!! I still walk. I hope you are feeling better soon. Keep us posted on your recovery. Marly |

Hello - thank you all for your kind words. My back is a little less painful each day. I have a dctor appt. this Friday, and hope that he will give me some safe strengthening goals. MArly, I am grateful for the information about walking. My sister also has a bad back and walks religiously. I am going to begin too. I did not know it lubricated the spine, and will start walking now that the pain is less.
Today, I am back in the schedule of things, and I hope I can keep my littlest grandaughter tomorrow! Hugs to you all!

Oh Jeannie...I will sure keep you in my prayers. I have watched my husband deal with his back problems for years (he had surgery finally about 7 years ago but still has flare ups now) and I really don't think there is another type of pain like that. Just the tiniest movement and your back moves with it. I am glad to hear it is a little better today..you take care!!

Hope you feel better soon. I've got a bad disk in my lower back, and it is totally incapacitating when it "goes out". The first time it happened, I was only 22 and I woke up unable to move. I literally thought I was going to be crippled for life, and I was so relieved when the pain gradually went away.
Any exercise you can do to strengthen your "core" will help keep your back healthy. So walking, stretches, situps are all good. Your doctor may send you to a physical therapist. If they give you stretches or exercises to do, take my word for it: do them religiously, even after your back stops hurting! |

Amy - I am totally hoping that strengthening my core will inprove things. Your advice is good. Only 22! Yikes. I am 59, and mine has been having "spells" since I was about 40, but the lower back thing since about 5 years ago. When it is good, it is totally good. When it goes, it is horrible!!!
Thank you Jenny!
