Well Frannie, that is a complex term...for me being born and bred in Kansas, the wheat state...it is a love of nature, of earth and sky. I wake up to a broad horizon of brillant orange and pinks and blues and the song of a meadowlark in a Cottonwood on my 20 acres of rich black earth that grows wheat to feed others, hay to feed my cattle, grapes to warm a glass and a piece of bread. I teach my daughters the wonders of this earth and to care and tend it as we are just passing through, and that the wind that blows strong and steady holds secrets of the soul...and the souls of our ancestors that settled this prairie, that there is a price to be paid for this freedom we now relish and that it was dear. And I feel sexy in overalls and boots and tending my calves that can't nurse on their mothers. That beauty is in the soul..and no makeup and gray hair is beautiful. This is the essence of farmgirl to me...

If I keep a green bough in my heart, the singing bird will come.

I don't think a farmgirl is what anyone chooses to be...it is something that makes up your very soul, a deep part of your personal being and spirit. I think farmgirls are nurturing, being it children, animals, birds, flowers, herbs, veggies or whatever. Farmgirls have a love and respect for our fragile earth and mother nature. Farmgirls see the beauty of each new season with renewed energy and infinite optimism. Farmgirls see inner beauty in living things, looking beyond what shows on the surface...at least that what it all means to me...

Farmgirl to me means WORKAHOLIC...everything you dream means work, putting those dreams into life is work, even planning means scratching pencil lay outwork, everything I work on begats more work, ifn I take a day off, work is begatting with out me and now I be hafta to do double time to get back to where I was when I left off, tisn't never over, then I be working in my dreams and the circle starts agin.

To me farmgirl is a state of mind. I think you can be a farmgirl and not live on a farm.It means appreciating the simple things in life, being thankful every day for the things you have, being thoughtful and kind and generous with others, trying to do the very best you can for your family (including four-legged family ) and for your friends.

Living simply, doing the most with your hands. Understanding and living with the Earth and all she contains. A willness to get dirty and get the job done. The last one standing. The list goes on and on.

A deep appreciation of the land and the simplicity of living each day with a purity of purpose. She is a wise woman and our values are different from the mainstream. Being a farmgirl is a deep-seated heart-felt respect for nature, family, and Country. She is not necessairly on the farm, she may be a urban farm girl, but the traits are the same.

Her beauty is in the soul of who and what she is.

This definition was on the back of a card I received. Blew me away it resonated so deeply.....

"The Farmgirl symbolizes Everywoman as she moves through life in
quest for self, meaning, happiness, friendship and love.
The farmgirl finds in the world around her and within herself the courage and strength she needs to meet life, and all life’s unexpected twists and tangles, with laughter and hope. This farmgirl Everywoman is an intense, creative being bravely in search of inspiration and adventure."

All this and more...all that each of you are!

"Faith shall finish all that Hope begins."
