That is really cool! I just happened upon Apartment Therapy the other day! It seems like a great place to get some really good tips and ideas!

gosh .. these tents remind me of some of the tents you 'live in' when visiting African preserves! We are researching how we want ours to look .. gonna' start having it built next month! so excited! xo
it is way tooooo HUMID here for a mattress outside .. i think we are going to put 'hammocks' in it instead. and probably a TIN roof .. with either log or board railings around it .. so the kids don't fall off the 'tall' end. (log would be more charming but i think the 'boards' would last longer in our environment). ours will be more like a 'tree house' (not IN but UNDER) .. it is being built on a 'slope' .. so it will be ground level at one end .. but probably five or six feet at the other. we're thinking about 16 by 24 feet in size. OHHHHHHHH i can hardly wait! i want to research the places maryjane mentions in her first book on them to see what other options we might want to choose.
what a lovely, lovely paradise maryjane has created .. i can hardly wait to visit someday! xo

debra darlin' .. i sure hope you do this too! it's basically a 'wooden floor' (kinda' like the one on our outdoor shower porch) .. then you can get as creative (or not) with what you decide to do with the sides/railings/top/roof or no roof/canvass/tin/wood/furnishings. just something slightly elevated off the ground would be nice and a little more comfy for 'uz senior citizens' (although .. hank and i doooooo love the feel of the earth under us too when we go primitive camping). it's toooooooo HOT here in the summertime for camping .. but i figure come autumn .. we'll spend lots of nights out in our 'tree house'.
now admittedly, we are going to have Kathy SUGARBUCKET build it for us! i love the idea of a couple olde cupboards sitting on it with 'provisions' for the campfire pit. won't put running water down there (but HA! we are only about 100 steps or so from the cabins where we're going to put ours!)
i hope you decide to build your very own little 'get-away'. xo

I'm sure the pictures don't do it justice! I've never been to Idaho, and her farm and land looks so beautiful in the photos...it almost doesn't look real. :) One day, Wilma, I will definitely have to go. I know I would love it! What a wonderful experience staying there would be. One day......*sigh*
