From the mid 90's only a bit ago to 68 degrees today.Lots of rain and thunderstorms scattered for the last week. Today feels like Fall is on it's way. Oil heating prices are to hit an all time high so we invested in a wood pellet stove. DH's grandfather's old wood burning stove, a Glenwood, is in the process of being restored piece by piece as we have time. We are seriously considering installing the stove as another source of heat. Our house is very old (built in 1929, two stories with double porches, and can be beyond cold in the winter. Replaced all the windows (37 !!!!) this Spring from the originals so this should help keep out the winter wind.

68 degrees sounds heavenly to me. Here in Louisiana it's in the 80's, humid, raining, etc... I can't wait for the cool weather.

I am jealous...it is 101 right now..Fall for us is about 9 weeks away...oh boy!!

It has felt like fall here for about 2 weeks, I am afraid it is going to be a rough winter!

I'd love to up in Oregon for a couple of weeks to feel that coolness. What is a rough winter? I remember it snowing in Louisiana twice in my lifetime. LOL

We finally got rid of our hot & steamy weather here in Chicagoland. Today is a sunny 74 with a nice summer breeze. They say it will be around 77-81 all week. Everyone is hoping it doesn't get any warmer then that! I can't wait for autumn and wearing a sweater with jeans!

Hi Marly --- A rough winter in the Northeast is :
*Late October to Late April either cold, snow or mud season
*Commuting on ice packed roads or heavy snow without any options of
staying home safe
*Digging your car and drive-way out twice a day or more
*Days of being in the single digits temperatures
*Icicles are big as your arm hanging from the roof edges doing
damage to shingles and guttering
*Cutting back on the family budget to afford the monthly delivery
of heating oil and finding other sources to keep the house warm
*Snow mountains from plowed snow in store parking lots over 10 feet
high that don't melt until late Spring
*Frozen pipes in the house
*Keeping an emergency kit in car in case you become stranded
*Cabin Fever
But ---- it is also
*Skating and building bon-fires on frozen ponds and lakes.
*Sledding and skiing
*Creating snow people and snow forts with your kids
*Feeling cozy inside the house on snowy days with something slow
cooking on the stove
*Pink cheeked babies in snow suits discovering their first winter
*Hanging gleaned items from the woods (berries, evergreen and dried
vines) to adorn your doors, window boxes and fences
*Snow ice cream
*Homemade doughnuts, maple syrup poured on snow and dill pickles
served at skating parties on frozen lakes & ponds
*Candles or luminaros to light the night
*All those boots and mittens lined up in the mud room after
a fun day in the snow
*Catching snowflakes on your tongue
*A silence and beauty in each new fallen snow that can't be described

Heck, I actually have my windows open and no air conditioner! That is unheard of in Illinois in the middle of August. But it is sure okay by me!

Well we've had a pleasant two days, highs still in the 80s but a lot less humid. I can't wait until the fall crispness and coolness. It's so refreshing after the hot, muggy weather of summer. It makes me feel alive again, I'm counting down the days.

YES!!!! I have had the windows open for 2 days now just at night I have to close them and turn the air on since it's a brick house and heats up after all day in the sun but it's GREAT!!!! I love it now and I hope it doesn't heat up again....I love my windows open! Yes...Fall is coming to the Ozarks!

Here it is starting to look (and feel, at least for me) like Fall too!
I am always cold that is why I prefer summer :).
BUT Fall can be fun too:
Decorating with Pumpkins and the such.
All the leaves are turning color, so pretty. I have trees in my street and they turn a dark red!

| When I got up at 6am today it was 55 degrees! No wonder my feet were cold! It's very pleasant during the days and then after about 6p you can feel a little chill. I like it. Susan |
