I've done it different ways. If I am in a hurry I slice the bread in half lengthwise, generously butter both side and sprinkle garlic powder and a little fresh thyme on each side. Then I bake uncovered until hot and crusty. Then I slice into smaller pieces.

If I have time I use roasted garlic instead of powder. I have a garlic roaster which is AWESOME but it takes about 30 minutes so I have to plan ahead.

I do the same as Julie except I use butter and parmesan and put it under the broiler.

I do it like Julie..but use fresh garlic (I crush it with the garlic press) and I usually melt the butter and dip the bread halves in the butter/garlic combo...sprinkle with a little sea salt and fresh parsley or chives and use the broiler...boy..that sounds pretty good right now.
Oh...the bread is sourdough if I can get it it or make it!
