Can pumpkins and squash cross pollinate I have pumpkins that look like squash and squash that looks like pumpkins.

Can this happen?

Now that I know that it can happen is either one of these edible. The pumpkins are basketball size and getting larger the squash is puttting on more but not much size. Should I just pull them out and say lesson learned or wait and see what they taste like.
