We've been getting lots of rain in SW Louisiana. My grass is looking super good. I am anxious to mow.

We've been getting lots of rain here in mid coast Maine too. I keep checking myself for mildew! I want the sun, I want a blue sky, I know my plants love the rain, but I am ready for a break...

We are getting rain today here in S.E. KS. Have had a fairly nice summer. Just enough rain when we needed it. Last summer our town was a National disaster flood. And there was an oil spill on top of that. A third of our town had to be torn down. We live on a hill out in the country so stayed safe. The 10 summers before that, we would go 90 days without rain and most days were over 100 degrees. KS seems to get the the worst rain, drouth, tornados, wind and hail. You name it.

Wow, I would say this summer sounds better than last. Kansas does seem to be right in the middle of a very active weather zone. I live on the coast of Maine, and we get hurricanes occasionally, no so much the last twenty years, but nothing like tornados....

Hi Karin,

What do you use for your winter heat source --- oil, wood or pellet stove?

We have visited Maine many times over the ten years since moving here.
A beautiful place that I would like to live in eventually --- maybe retirement days down the road.

You are definitely right about Kansas weather, but I do miss being able to see miles and miles of open land. Especially during wheat harvest. Incredibly beautiful. We had a weather cast of hail for this part of New England yesterday with the thunderstorms. Hail is rare here so everyone seemed to be thinking this was a once in a lifetime experience. Amusing, as experience with hail in Kansas means not penny sized but golf ball to softball sized hail. Now that would have made for a once in a lifetime experience here. I get a care package from Kansas about four times a year (Grandma's Mustard in the teddy bear squeeze bottle, Dorothy Lynch salad dressing and other items). Paxico, Kansas is my source for items needed in restoring the 1920's Glenwood kitchen range. Have found a great little store with Scandinavian products similar to Lindsborg nearby. Kringle with almonds --- so good.
