I jus' got offa' the phone with one'a my very bes' gal pal in Maryland .. and she and several other of my precious dollie frenz are going to join us here for our Kentucky Gurlfren Gathering!!!!
AND .. Cyndi .. who is one of the most talented 'folk artists' in the country .. is coming and on Saturday at Luna's place .. will demonstrate how to make an adorable 'twiggy pumpkin tree'. AND .. for the kids that will be here on Sunday .. and if you wish to MAKE one of these .. she will bring kits and teach you how!
WARNING .. you better bring your DEPENDS .. cuz' Cyndi will have you wettin' your underoos whilst she 'regales' you with tales of her life! I have actaully seen (and been) grown women CRY from laughing so hard as Cyndi 'spins a yarn'! You will travel back in time to her youth and teen years .. and oh my yessss .. she still continues to have FUN FUN FUN in this thing called life!
I miss my dollie gurlfrenz .. i have made forever memories with them .. and they will be in my heart even after i take my last breath on this earth!
There will be a 'materials' fee for both Kathy's class and Cindy's class .. and Jo's class. will let ya'll know how much and will post pictures of these projects soon's they get this info to me!
there will be a 'cut-off' deadline to sign up for these classes .. cuz' they have to know how many kits to make. (i'll post all that info soon too!)
Pat .. who is from Australia .. is the cutest, tiniest little angel-pie .. she amazes me! She is a teacher during the school year .. and in addtion to being a mom and grammie .. wife and very creative .. she TRAVELS all over the world most of the summer! She has great stories to share.
Mary .. who is also one of the most talented women i've met .. and has an 'olde soul' .. she is one of the 'wise women' who have been here before! well, she has made costumes for the broadway play: CATS!!! (she designs and makes wonderfully funky clothing .. i love her spirit .. and her!
Jeanne .. who is also a sweet dolly club girlfriend .. i loved watching her begin by making her first dolly to becoming a very accomplished artist and dollmaker .. AND OHHHH .. i have a great story to tell ya'll about when Jeannie and i travelled to SHAKERTOWN, Kentucky to take attend a week-long Primitive Rug Hooking Camp .. we stayed at Shakertown and were visited by GHOSTS in our room.. (only Jeannie slept through it all!) ohhhh .. there is more to the story .. ya' gotta' come to hear and giggle! Jeannie is a sweetheart!
they may pick up another dolly or two t'wixt now and then too to join us!
JO GUMMERE .. i've written of Jo already ... soooo .. you know she is a doll and teddybear .. and artist extraordinairre!!! Jo is one of those 'angels' god sends to earth to teach us .. it is no wonder that her pattern company was called: ANGELS AMONG US. You will adore her! All the dolly gurlz coming from Maryland have taken classes with Jo .. sooo .. this will be a wonderful reunion for them too!
AND .. i KNOW .. THEY ARE ALL GOING TO ADORE MY KENTUCKY AND FARMGIRL GURLFRENZ!!!!! (i sure do!!!!!!!!)
BE SURE TO E-MAIL ME IF YOU WILL BE JOINING US .. AND IF YOU WANT TO TAKE THEIR CLASSES. THEY WILL BE ABOUT $10 OR $15. EACH CLASS. SOOOOO .. save aside some pennies .. cuz' you would ordinarily pay a LOT to learn from women like these!

Oh, wow!! I am so glad I am coming! I'll be there both days, as will my sister from Florida. (Haven't convinced the one from Cincinatti yet.) I cannot wait for this weekend to get here. :)

GOURD HEAD DOLLY .. this was one of my mos' fav 'creative' classes .. we all gathered on our back deck over looking the woods and the magothy river. jo talked to us about 'nature's bounty' and getting in tune with our own nature. then she had us walk all through the woods at crooked tree hollow, gathering twigs, moss, stones, anything 'nature' .. then we were told to sit for a few minutes and just think about what we'd collected .. how it could be turned into a doll and about our own crativity. then we all gathered again on the deck and made dollies.
i got this one from JO .. (i gifted the one i made to my daughter) .. it was very AMERICANA!

JO came to our dolly club several times .. sometimes to teach dolls .. and a few times to teach 'teddy bears'.
these little sweeties were made by ME .. and my little grand-daughter .. she was probably about 8 at the time!
she made the girl bear .. i made the boy bear.
they are named Betty and Otis (after my aunt and uncle). xo

MOHAIR BEARS .. made by me and my daughter .. JO taught this class too!
mohair is soooooo expensive .. i think about a hundred dollars a yard .. sooo .. it was with much trepidation that i 'cut' it .. but jo assured us we would love our teddies .. and we all sure did!
IF i thought enuff gurlz would travel here (in the future) . .i'd have jo back to teach us to make teddy bears! maybe someday! xo
i've noticed that in maryland .. there was no shortage of women wanting to take classes and money did not seem to be an issue ..
i've noticed since moving to kentucky .. times they are a changin' .. what with such high prices and job shortages.
we all must have priorities for our pennies .. that's for sure. xo
OH .. they are named: Celesta and Ernest .. yep .. two more aunts and uncles!

| Oh Frannie...I so want to visit your little hide-away! It'd be the better part of an 8 1/2 hour drive for me to get to you for your dolly weekend...but...some other time I might be able too. I think you're just a hop skip (as the crow flies) from Mt. Vernon as far as I can tell, where I've got people. (yep..people) We try to get down there at least 2x a year. I just love that area. It's like when I go into up north (MI). My heart slows down and feels lighter and I think I can breathe better too. (well, not in that heat...but love the spring and fall)... Keep posting those pics. |

diana .. i'm thinkin' about 6 hours maybe? kathy and i go to a friend's place nearby often to get antiques for kathy to sell. i 'think' it takes us about that long .. but then .. we amble here and there back and forth!

| Hey Frannie...no I meant Mt. Vernon KY. (over about 20 miles south of Berea on 75) But I checked about your show in November... we'll see. That's only about 4 hours. It's hard to commit to weekends because my hubby does most of his work then. And although I'm OK with the boys on there own for a day, I'm not hip about letting them hang for a whole weekend... |

now .. that's a new one on me. i'm from "off" so i still haven't discovered all the little towns in kentucky. that must be reeeeeely close to the tennessee line?? i'm only about 2 hours (at the most) from Berea). Green County is smack dab in the MIDDLE of the state of Kentucky.
try to trade 'kid-sittin' with a friend or family member for those young'uns of yorn! xo

oh my gosh ... oh my golly .. i had a two hour wait at the doc's office today .. (so he could look at my toe) .. and it's ALL HEALED!!! oh YAY! i always take sewies or books/magazines or my 'plannin' book' with me to 'wile the time away' .. i planned more fun stuff for our Kentucky Gurlfrenz Gathering! will write more of it soon! such fun and games are planned .. with prizes!!! xo

as gomer pyle usta' say .. well golleeeeeeeeeee! (i jus' wrote more of our gathering plans .. and hit the wrong button and WHAMMO .. i sent it out in space!) will write it again soon .. but mos'ly .. it was our 'fun plans' as they are 'jellin'!
i think we are at about twenty-some of us for saturday .. (and i'm not sure just yet how many for sunday).
we'll have classes and demonstrations on saturday at kathy and luna's .. and two fun classes scheduled for sunday here at freedom valley farm!
some of the gurlz (local) can only come for one or the other day ... but i'm thinking we'll have a good dozen or more camping out here on Saturday night. If the weather is COLD .. we can all snuggle INSIDE!
AND .. i will be taking some of the maryland gurlfrenz to the airport in louisville on monday (with a fun stop or two on the way (for some antiquin' of course!) .. sooooo .. if you wanna' hang out sunday night too and play on monday .. that would be swell!!)

oh my gosh! i am sooooooooooooo EXCITED! pat byers .. who is HIGHBUTTON SHOES .. is travelling down from Michigan to our gathering .. she is bringing along a few more friends too!!! she is one of the most talented ladies i know .. gosh! i sure know a LOT of talented ladies!!! and .. she has wonderful, wonderful, wonderful primitive antiques.
she stopped by here on her way to do a show in tennessee a couple years ago .. but alas and alack .. i was 'travelling' .. but she almost caught honey-hunk comin' outta' the outdoor shower! i can hardly wait to meet her! this gatherin' jus' gets better'n'better!!!

kathy sugarbucket is going to be teaching a class (she will provide all the supplies in your 'kit') in making an 'autumn' NATURE swag .. (will look great across your fireplace or across a window!)
luna will be teaching a class making 'felted' ball pincushions! (AND .. we will all try our hand at 'drop-spindle' wool spinning!
cyndi will teach us to all make an adorable 'twig pumpkin tree' ... it will have 'clay' pumpkins!
jo sent me the following e-mail about her class: I'M DESIGNING DOLLS THAT ARE CREATED ON THE OLD SEWING SPOOLS. I'M COMING UP WITH A VARIETY OF STYLES. EVERYTHING WILL BE KITTED UP AND PRE-SEWN. THEY HAVE CLAY HEADS SHOES AND HANDS. THE CLOTHES WILL BE MADE OF VINTAGE FABRICS AND LACES. I'LL BE DEMONSTRATING HOW TO DO THE CLAY FACES, SHOES AND HANDS (ALL WILL BE PRE-MADE AND IN THE KIT). ALL THE GIRLS WILL HAVE TO DO IS GLUE AND HAND SEW.
each class will be $10. for the KIT ..no class fees ..these gurlz are teaching as their gift to us! i WILL need to know who will be taking WHICH class .. cuz' they have to create the KITS for each of us.
(i'll post photos of what we will be making in each class soon's i get photos from the gurlz). you can take one, two, three, four or ALL classes! (i HIGHLY recommend saving your KIT pennies and taking ALL!)
oh lordy! lordy! i'm sooooooooooooooo excited!
i'm hopin' upon hope that miz kathy sugarbucket and crew will have time to finish up our 'tree house' outpost by the time our gathering rolls around. (IF you are driving .. and wish to bring a COT with you .. please do .. AND your sleeping bag and fav 'pillow'). IF the weather is cold or you jus' don't like sleepin' under the stars (remember .. you WON'T be on the 'ground' .. but isn't it fun to 'camp-out'!!) you are welcome to find a little spot INSIDE the cabins to put down your sleeping bag (too small and crowded for 'cots' inside .. but i do have a screened in porch and a big un-screened porch (both, of course, have TIN roofs .. AS WILL the TREEHOUSE!)
I think we have between 25 to 30 gurlz joinin' us so far! (with a few 'day-trippers')

if you have other friends or family that would also like to come along for all this fun .. please feel free to invite them .. but remember .. i MUST know ahead of time so 'food' and stuff can be worked out for everyone!

oh ... FOOD:
Saturday, October 11 morning .. i'll have coffee and tea and muffins/sweet rolls for a quickie breakfast .. cuz' we want to be on the road pretty early in the morning for our fun-filled day!
LUNCH on Saturday .. we will stop at a CHICKEN fast-food (KFC .. i think) .. everyone will order their own-lunch "TO GO" .. we'll take it to Kathy's where a little later we will have a picnic lunch with what we bring .. emphasis is on the CLASS kathy will be teaching .. and fun and laughter .. yummy food LATER that evening .. when we arrive at Luna's in the afternoon for her fun sheep farm tour and demonstrations and class! That evening .. we'll build a fire in the firepit .. have a yummy picnic dinner .. i will ask that we each donate $5. towards the vittles .. and we will make S'MORES for dessert!
SUNDAY .. i'll have eggs and bacon and sausage and pancake/waffle fixin's and fruit and toast and bagels, and cereal and juice, coffee, tea etc. etc. on hand .. and the best cooks among you can conjure up our breakfast .. might be fun to do this outside in our firepit!!!!
For LUNCH on Sunday .. i'll get some breads, and meats and cheeses and chips and cookies and sodas and PB and HOME-MADE Jams .. and we can all conjure up some 'sammies' while we take our classes. There will be TWO fun classes on Sunday .. Cyndi's Autumn Pumpkin Tree and Jo's wonderful whimisical dollies (i do believe you will have time to take both classes!!)
OHHHHHHHHHHH GURLZ .. this is so much fun .. we usta' do these types of gatherings all the time when i lived in maryland! fun, friendship, creativity and a little fun 'shoppin' too!!!!!!!! AND .. by the way .. be watching for the NEXT posting i send along .. cuz' .. the amazing Pat Byers from HIGH BUTTON SHOE .. suggested something that just lit fire to kerosene in my brain! OHHHH GURLZ!!
We will be having some fun "TRUNK SHOWS" at our gathering! There are so very many TALENTED ladies attending our gathering .. some have FABULOUS antiques to sell and some create wonderful dolls and 'hand-dids' that they sell too!
And .. most of us 'gurl-folk' LOVE to add 'treasures' to our homes and lives .. and what a wonderful way to help support each other .. shoppin' from each other!
Now .. we will have a WONDERFUL experience shopping at Kathy Sugarbucket's primitive log cabin shoppe ... Pat Byers (High Button Shoes) also has wonderful treasures .. both primitive and hand-did! I know that Jo can conjure up some fantastic dolls .. as can all the dolly-club ladies! Some will be bringing extra 'kits' so that once you learn to make something .. you can buy extra kits to make when you get home! Luna has BEAUTIFUL wools you can buy .. (i doubt that i'll get any dollies conjured up by then .. but .. IF we have time on Sunday .. the Glovers Station gurlz said they would open up for us if we wanna' make a quick run to town!)
IF any of you have any antiques or hand-dids that you have created .. and would like to offer them for adoption (sale) .. pleeeeeeeeze feel free to bring them! We will set up a little' "TRUNK SHOW" where everyone that wishes to can shoppe! I love finding ways we can all support each other!!!! Bring your 'christmas wish lists' along .. mayhaps you can find some wonderfuls and get some of that shopping done in October!
Let me know if you would like to participate in our TRUNK SHOWS .. and BY THE WAY .. if you have some suitcases .. or a ... TRUNK ... they are a GREAT way to display your goodies!
Some of our gurlz can only come on SATURDAY .. OR .. SUNDAY .. sooooooo .. we will have our TRUNK SHOW on both days! Probably SATURDAY at Luna's .. and SUNDAY here at Freedom Valley Farm!
Try to fit what you will be bringing into a coupla' suitcases .. UNLESS you will be driving and wish to cart more along to Luna's on Saturday.
Sunday .. if your car is parked here .. bring as much as you wish!

probably won't have fridge room for anything PERISHABLE or SPOILABLE .. but any little 'snack-ette' you'd like to bring to share would be devine!

if you do bring a little sumpthin-sumpthin to share .. please .. bring copies of your recipes too! truly t'woould be fun to share these and bring them home with you to make for your family and friends.

I am not sure yet what I will bring but I have a wonderful pumpkin muffin recipe that is sooooo good. I also, have a yummy pumpkin cookie recipe that is over 100 yrs old, I might try some of those. (Miss Marie an older homemaker in our Homemakers club shared that very old recipe with our club...needless to say every fall that was always our request for her bring to gatherings. Miss Marie is no longer with us... but I just know that is turning out those wonderful cookies every fall in Heaven)
*Just a thought, the gurlz might want to share their recipes. If time permits, I would love to do handwritten ones to share with the other gurlz. Wouldn't that be fun!!!?

Well Frannie you know (from my email correspondence with ya) that I am not going to be able to come to the Gathering but, I am definately going to be there in Spirit!!! I DO SO wish we lived closer and I could hop over for the day and visit with everyone! I am going to be sending FUN thoughts to all of you and some New Mexico Cookies with the recipe for all of you to share!
Ohhh Frannie....how many recipe copies should I send?
I already feel like I am part of the giggling and merriment!!
