Hello again! I'm a new returnee and I am so inspired and refreshed to be back amongst fellow country minded sisters. It's been a few years since I initially signed on here but with the purchase and sale of a small town market in between times, my life had just been too busy to be healthy. Priorities are aligning as I type this and I'm looking forward to reconnecting with all the beautiful women on this site. Let me reintroduce myself. My name is Michele and I live in rural eastern Oregon, out among dry wheat farms. Even though my family are not farmers I do have horses and mules, chickens, turkeys and ducks and of course all the regular domestic critters that come with hobby farms like a few dogs and cats too. I love to cook and garden. I'm hoping to recapture my old passion for sewing clothes soon. (I'm 6'3" so it's more of a necessity sometimes.) I'd absolutely love to hear about your lives and what you do for entertainment when you're away from the hustle and bustle of town.

Dance like no one is watching!

Hi Marybeth and DairySue!
Thank you for the warm welcome!!! Sisters like you are like a breath of fresh air. Anytime I'm feeling blue about missing my family that have recently moved three hours away and when I start feeling very lonely out here in rural Oregon, all I have to do is log on here and feel connected with fellow women who understand the shoes (or muck boots) I'm wearing. You're a blessing from above and I really appreciate your connection! God Bless and I hope to hear more about you and your lives. DairySue, you mentioned that you sew clothing. What is your favorite thing to sew or who is your favorite to sew for? I need a little inspiration since I'm in rut. My daughters are 14 and 16 and "wouldn't be caught dead in anything handmade anymore" and feeling selfish just sewing for myself. (Although, I secretly love that tailored fit I get from sewing my own clothes.) lol Hope to hear from you soon!

Oh Michele! Your daughters "not wanting to be caught dead in anything handmade" makes me laugh out loud. Through school, I was a member of a sewing 4-H club and participated in any and all sewing competitions. My activities would make the local newspaper, so lots of people knew I sewed. Any special concert or dressier event, I heard the dreaded question, "Did you make your dress?" I'd laugh and say, "Why, does it look like it?" I sew now for my sister's children and my dogs. Yes, my dogs. Coats, beds, snoods, costumes. I make a lot of these types of things for dog rescue fundraisers.

Michelle, I can relate to the daughters not wanting to wear handmade stuff, and heard it often..
I sewed mostof my three childrens clothes when they were younger But when my teen daughters joined Rainbow girls and needed formal dresses for meetings.. they quickly changed their minds because "They couldnt wear the same dress two times in a row!" I found by purchasing formals at secondhand or consignment stores a help then I would alter the appearance adding sequences , beads, feathers, ribbons really made a difference too. I then sewed a New formal for special occassions.
Both of my daughters are grown now and although they have surprisingly adopted their mom's habits in a lot of ways. unfortunately they have no daughters of their own..instead they have contributed 4 sons between them to our family tree. Even my son( who's wife is expectingis having a son in October) will have no dresses to worry about.

Welcome back, Michelle! Congratulations on getting your life back in balance. It's a constant process but it sounds like you're getting much closer to center than you've been for awhile.

God bless -
