I had to say it somewhere because I am excited.. and what better place...

I'm going to be taking a Certified Herbalist course that includes iridology and aromatherapy and other things here in town.
So, technically, I am going back to school for 8-10 weeks. I want to incorporate this with my reiki healing, so I feel I am "coming together" and finding my niche. Long term goal is to help people with this on my small farm and hold classes/workshops, etc., there.
At least I am beginning to see a vision!

Well, it's here in Houston at this shop in the Heights area. The classe are $250 (plus $75 for materials/deposit) .. The woman doing it has a Horsefarm in Hockley ... (Heck, that's what I'd like!) She has classes there sometimes too ... I thought it was ironic that it was similar to what I want to do!
Here's the website and about the class -

Brooke, how exciting!! someday I would love to become a certified herbalist.. I am very excited myself though.. We have been heading back to raw foods- at least mostly raw- the rest vegan.. I am trying to stay near 100% raw while losing weight. hubby has 50 lbs to lose as well.. Anyway, here we are working on this and hubby gets a phone call from Modern Manna Ministries very own Danny Vierra. I started listening to Danny on a Christian radio station over 15 years ago.. Everything I know on health and nutrition goes back to Danny. We also lived for a bit around the corner from his health food store and would go there several times a week.
Danny has hired Jeff to redo their website and to do the marketing! This is very cool.. But Danny has also evolved over the years from a 100% vegan diet to over 50% raw foods and the rest vegan. Exactly what we are working towards. I talked with Danny yesterday and he is sending me his 10 day detox program and told me that he would be there to help me along the way to getting all of this weight off and that he would love to put my testimony on the website. Wow! my own personal health coach- someone I have great respect for and highly trust. So I started today. I have cut out everything but coffee in the morning- that will go at some point as the weight comes off but not yet. I am eating 100% raw for now until after the detox and then will take it one day at a time. I am journalling all I eat, weekly weigh ins and anything else I have learned from my reading on raw food diet and from the internet. I am also recording any new recipes I try or create myself. He can use my own recipes on the website.. I am helping on the creative end- as far as content on the website- he needs new updated recipes (all of the recipes come from a recipe book he and his wife created at least 13 years ago), more articles on herbology, healing with nutrition and the vegan/raw food diet.
I am so very excited to be a part of this. It was just the jump I needed to do what I have known for a long time I needed to do- and follow through with..

Blessings, Debra

Debra! This is so wonderful to hear. I am going to look him up on the web. Tell me, though, how do you do it? I tried just being vegetarian only eating fish and eggs. I get sick and it seems my hypoglycemia kicks in? I have to eat chicken. I don't eat red meat if I can help it though. (Red meat makes me sick!) I try not to have chicken TOO much. Baking is what kills me. I have to do it! I don't think I could go all raw. It seems it is too hard on my system? I am excited for you too! That is SO neat that he called and you guys are hired on and working with him! I'm curious to learn more. :)

Brooke, my dh has hypoglycemia too.. you know what helps him?? legumes! they are the best thing for people suffering from blood sugar issues- like diabetes and hypoglycemia. The beans have a slow burn of energy so no peaks in the sugar. I don't know if we will do 100% raw forever- for him probably 80% now.. lots of beans (I add cooked beans to green smoothies with great success) and he likes the whole wheat wasa crisp bread. I do love veggie sandwiches and boca burgers- so at some point after I have lost some weight and gone through the detox I will probably drop down to 80% raw.
Green smoothies are the best. Today we had kale, mango and banana smoothies- I add flax seed as well. for lunch we had salad..romaine, cucumber, red onion with a balsamic vinaigrette and a good scoop of guacamole on the side. It was delish and filling. I did jeff's the same way but added a scoop of hummus and crumbled wasa crisp bread crackers on top. He said it was ssssoooooo good. will have the same again for dinner with some oranges for dessert. We eat the most of what we can get on sale- produce wise. We were given a boat load of cucumbers and the freezers are filled with smoothie fixins so that is what we eat the most of this week. we have a lot of oranges too.
jeff went 100% raw for 30 days and did fine but he ate a lot of nuts, seeds and avocados. There is so much wonderful info out there. I have read stories of the raw food diet curing cancer, diabetes, and other diseases. I met a gal whose best friends mom was diagnosed with breast cancer a couple of years ago. She went the holistic route and changed to a 100% raw food diet. she is cancer free and continues to eat 100% raw. I just read this story today http://www.fresh-network.com/acatalog/I-beat-cancer-with-a-raw-diet.html
to learn about modern manna and Danny Vierra go to http://modernmanna.org if you have seen the infomercial for the Almighty Cleanse that is him. Please disregard any bad press you have heard regarding this product. I guess the company doing the infomercials are not operating with good values.. I know that anything Danny puts his name to is a great product. He also sells that cleanse on his website- which is the better place to order anyway. We are going to be doing the 10 day cleanse- and we are sending Jeff's sister to the BellaVita later this month- jeff bartered the website rebuild for her stay there. She has been suffering from major health problems this last year, in and out of the hospital and missed lots of work- it was all stress! I can't wait to hear how her stay was.. I would love to go there someday.. I am sure I will get too when the kids are older. You are fed 100% organic raw gourmet food, live organic juices and do the 10 day detox plus all the workshops she will get to attend! I am so excited to be a part of this.. can you tell??? :-)

Debra, Have you been to rawfoodtalk.com ? It's a great site for people just starting and also continuing the raw foods lifestyle. They have wonderful tips and recipes there too. I have been a member of the website since before Thnaksgiving. I'm still not 100% raw, it is a long term goal. I love green smoothies! Right now they have a whole recipe post devoted to smoothie recipes.

Brooke, How exciting! Have fun and good luck with your classes.

Barb I probably have.. I will check it out.. We have been trying to go raw for several years.. but we had been dealing with dh's drinking problem and that was toooooo much stress to add changing our diets completely.. so we were on again off again :-) dh is in recovery and now is a great time- especially with Danny helping.. We have been doing green smoothies for about 3 years now- that is one thing we haven't given up ever.. We love them!

I was just looking at his website, Debra, and really liking what I saw! I agree whole-heartedly about the cow issue (I was reading about the mad cow thing..) You know, it just makes me SO sick now to eat any red meat.. and I stopped drinking milk (except for the organic kind every once in a while) .. I was trying to find a price for the 10 day cleanse.. I guess I will look around more. lol. I will check out the other sites you sent too. So he has hypoglycemia too and does find.. well, that MAKES SENSE why I eat beans and feel really good when I do! Sounds like more protein and more (is it?) b-vitamins.. (although I have a hereditary disorder and can't have too much b6)... All that food you have been having sounds soooo good! I wish the best for your s-i-l ..I know how it is..I've had alot of health problems and am just now (the last year actually) conquering them! What a blessing for her to be able to go and she has a wonderful brother and sister-in-law to want to do that!

Chelsey, I have always been into herbs and alternative types of healing since I was young .. and since getting sick and then trying to help myself (when doctors were raising hands and going, "We don't know what's wrong with you!" and taking TONS of pills and blood tests, etc..) .. I feel like I have been led to what I am even supposed to do in life...

At least something bad can turn around and be made into something good for someone's life! I help myself and I get to help others..

Debra, I have Alissa's book too, but not the DVD's. I really like her book, but I prefer just eating natural fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds, etc. Plus of course the smoothies. Lately I'm in love with watermelon, and have ate alot. Finally it is tasting good. Earlier this summer the watermelons had been bland.

Brooke, it is $179.95 I think.. With our large family and moving in the next few weeks we couldn't afford to do it but we were able to barter. And I am sooo very thankful that we were able to help Laurie go to BellaVita.. I keep telling myself "I will not be jealous" :-) it was a blessing to Danny as well as he is saving money on getting his website built since we are bartering.
I am sprouting lentils so I can still keep legumes in my diet while I am doing 100% raw right now. Danny recommends at least 50% raw after detoxing but I have well over 100 lbs to lose so I am striving to stay 100% until I get closer to my goal..
Barb- I am tend to stay away from all those complicated dishes but I do learn so much from the dvd's and the cookbooks. Little things I can do to add to our meals. I like Rejuvenate by Serene Alisson too- and I have her dvd as well.. She is where I first learned of green smoothies.

How about pintos? That's all I have. Well, I'm going to try it. Yes, I wish I had 180 dollars to do the cleanse. I probably would. I will keep it bookmarked for when I do have it. lol. Yes, I will try not to be jealous of her either. LOL.

I have heard that raw beans can make you sick.. lentils are the only ones I do right now- until I find other info.. Lentils are so small that they sprout quickly and have never made anyone sick :-)
Danny is a wealth of information and I am encouraging him to start a blog so that he can share more with us! he also did a radio show for 12 years called Healthline- you can tapes of those shows on his site but I am wondering if he has transcripts.. if he does that would be a wonderful thing to share on the blog..

Oh, joy. Well, maybe I will run and get some lentils tonight. lol. I am now confused because I swore MJ's article said any sort of bean .... Okay, I looked it up again. Here it is :

"You can easily sprout beans, grains, legumes, vegetables like cabbage or radishes, nuts like almonds (straight out of your natural-food store's bulk bin), seeds like clover, mustard, sesame, quinoa, or sunflower, grains like wheat or rye, on and on." ~~

I am confused!!
