Anybody ever try them? They are so delicious!! I especially love Mayhaw jelly. They grow wild in the swamp land and they do have thorns on the branches, but that doesn't seem to stop the deer from filling up on the tasty fruit. My daddy use to have a couple of trees, the deer always beat him to the harvest though. There is an orchard not far from me and I am thinking come next May I'm gonna be calling to inquire about picking some. Anyone else love Mayhaws?

Hi Brenda: No, I've never tried them. But, I do have a friend who has a mayhaw tree. I'll have to ask him to bring us some so I can try them. I'll let you know. Marly |

Marly, You absolutely have to try some Mayhaw jelly. It's really good!
Hey Autumn, That is a good idea about mixing some blackberry with it. I'll have to tell my mom about it so she can try that. Aren't Mayhaws the best? I am thinking about picking some next May and maybe saving the seed. Cuttings from a tree would be ideal, but I think that is a no-no out in the woods though. I'll have to do some sleuthing.

Hey Lisa, To me, it tastes like red plum jelly. The fruit is about the size of a cherry tomato. I will see if I can find a photo for you for a better description.
