I consider myself a social drinker, I do enjoy a glass of wine with or before my dinner. My husband is an alcoholic and has been sober for 10 years. I enjoy a glass of Pinot Greggio and he has no problem with ordering me wine at a restaurant or even purchasing it at the grocery store. I do not have the problem, he did and knows it is his problem. I can open a bottle and drink one glass. He drinks cranberry juice or ice tea when we drink socially. I support him and he appreciates me.

Congrats to your husband. One glass of wine will do me in! I'd rather drink milk.

I used to try it but like Marly, it knocks me out so fast. I do enjoy it on my birthday or Christmas.

Cheryl, I am in your boat but my hubby isn't far enough in his recovery for me to have wine at home. A couple of weeks ago he did let me order a glass of wine with dinner when he took me out for a date. I don't drink much but I love a good glass of wine. When we lived in pine grove CA we had a winery that made organic wine that was the best. once in a blue moon..

Blessings, Debra

I do have some nice barware and I drink everything from water to iced tea and even iced coffee on occasion. I really like pretty barware.

I was happy to read that you were laughing about our milk drinking. After I sent that post, I though maybe you or others would or may take it that I was being rude. I wasn't. I like wine, but it really sends me for a loop. Maybe I don't drink it anymore because years ago my older sister called around 2 PM one afternoon saying she was coming over, and did I have wine. Oh, yes I did. Well by 5PM she had not arrived and I had opened the wine. By 8 PM the wine was gone, and so was I. I woke up the next morning laying sideways across the bed. Never again!! LOL

My dh LOVES wine - would drink a glass with dinner every night if he could justify the expense. But I can't stand the stuff - it all tastes like vinegar to me - sophisticated palate huh? LOL It also gives me a horrible headache. My doc says it's probably from the sulfites and that I could probably drink the sulfite free wine, but since I don't like the flavor, there's no point in trying it. I don't have any objection to my dh drinking wine when we go out though - I ususally just have ice water.
And Cheryl and Debra - congrats to both of your families on having members on the road to recovery. I went to an AA birthday meeting with a family member recently and there were people there with sobriety ranging from 8 days to 26 years - all of them a testament to what wonderful things can come out of living their lives sober, one day at a time.

I like a glass of White Zinfandel. My husband likes Merlot. I cook with more wine than I drink though.

Spouse can't drink due to the medication he's on for diabetes, but I like to have a beer or glass of wine now and then. I like what he calls "rip yer face off" reds, but also softer reds like a Chianti or Valipocella. Two drinks is my max, else I wake up with a stupendous hangover the next day!

Yes. Though not as much as you might think. :) I make my own wine, and so it is sulfite free, and I make it to my own taste. I don't care so much if it meets fancy standards or not, the important thing to me is having fun making it, and knowing exactly what went into it (no preservatives). I make more than I drink, so I'm running into a bit of a storage problem. :) Sometimes it is just nice to sit and have a glass in the evening on the porch. My favorites are a sparkling pomegranate, raspberry, huckleberry (my best so far), and dandelion for sentimental reasons (it tastes nothing like what you'd expect from a dandelion...it is quite nice). Cheers!

We make a difference.

Cheryl, I love a good glass of wine with dinner...and after work while I'm making dinner. My husband and I will usually share a bottle while out, or at home. No more than 2.5 glasses in a bottle for each of us. Glad your husband knows his limits and doesn't put them on you, either.

We like really grapefruity Savignon Blancs, good German Reislings and actually, have gotten into a nice blush wine called "Soffia" by Coppola vineyards. It has hints of rose petal and pomegranite. Lovely color, to boot!

I like a good glass of wine occasionally as well. I make sure to buy the all organic, NSA (no Sulfites Added) wine. I haven't ever had a headache after switching.

I only occasionally will have more than two glasses at one sitting- maybe once a year. I don't much like the drunk feeling so I don't drink too much. However, I do love to cozy up in a blanket on a cold winter's night after drinking a glass of wine. I love that warm cozy feeling. Like being warm inside and out!

i know it's good for your heart .. but i jus' never could acquire a taste for alcohol in any drinks. i might take a sip or two if we are at dinner and honey man orders it (which is rare that he does) .. i sure don't have any judgements of friends who do though. our county is DRY .. we just recently tried to get it 'moist' for a wonderful historic inn that is being refurbished for visitors. it will hurt our economy somewhat .. but there are a lot of people in our area that see it as totally 'evil' .. and it did not pass.

I love wine. But just like mixed cocktails and coffee they bring on hot flashes! So I have had to limit myself. I still drink coffee everymorning. I love White Zinfandel. It's so easy to drink I have to be careful or I get the fuzzies. We have a Winery in our part of the woods that produces some of the best wine and they use native grapes,Scuppernong and Muscadine. It's called Duplin Winery. It is an awesome place to visit in Rose Hill,NC. Look it up on the internet. www.duplinwinery.com Magnolia(wine) is one of my favorites. The story behind their beginning is interesting. They hauled their first load to a major distributor on a converted hog trailer!

Oh, mommatracy, I know that winery--I used to live in Wilmington! I took the Scupernog to a particularly tense family Christmas--with excellent results. :) Anyway, yeah, I love wine too, and pretty much have a glass a night (we make our own, so no crazy budget excess involved). I am "blessed" by a metabolism that just doesn't do hangovers...I've had two or three, ever.

Tracy, it does the same to me. Boy do I get bad hot flashes from it, but I love wine too. I don't drink very often these days due to those darned hot flashes. I'm fond of Shiraz and try to get away with a glass or two if we are out and I'm in the mood for it.

Oh, I bought a nice white wine at a pick-your-own farm that was made with niagara grapes, native to the US. It was delightful!

I agree Alee That drunk feeling is no good. I enjoy as nice warm bubble bath with a glass of wine before bedtime. Makes me sleep very restful. I do enjoy both reds & white. Thoroughly enjoyed taking a wine tour in Napa Valley a few years ago. Washington & Oregon Wines are pretty good and I do support that market. I belong also to a wine club, wines from Santa Barbara Ca as well. * my husband gave me the subscription for christmas a couple years ago, I receive 12 bottles a year, at the winery's mailings. I personally probably only drink a glass with dinner meals two-three times a week. So I do not consume as much as it sounds.
Food Wine and Friends& family all go well together in our home.
Cheers!

Do I drink wine.........Yep! I don't over do too often but I do look forward to the weekends when I can have a little. We do drink organic so I feel better about that.

You lucky girl, you get to live in K Falls!! I'm green with envy! I go through there a couple times a year going to my moms in Monmouth. Ever heard of it? It's pretty tiny, a farm comunity really.

I love a good glass of Rip Your Face Off Red. I also like whites, blush and..... OK I like almost all wines. I limit myself to 2 glasses because like a lot of you have posted those DARN hot flashes are not worth it. Seems the heavier the wine the hotter the flash. I also like a good German, Mexican or Irish beer but again the hot flashes kick in. I have gone to drinking my juices or ice tea out of my stemware.
