at our mall .. i see good early baskets go fast .. and lots of grey graniteware is coming IN .. curious to see if it sells well .. i collect the PIE PLATES to use as DISHES .. they are GREAT to just grab one for a sammie or something .. and wash up sooooo quickly .. and don't BREAK! i have some other pieces too . .but the pie plates are my fav! (might even sell some of the other grey granite!)
i had about 50 TIN pie plates .. but put them on the back porch to 'decorate' with them .. and they RUSTED! dang!

| I don't know what it is, but I am on the lookout for blue spongeware, crocks, wooden buckets and ticking. I also love those pantry jars and bottles that a lot of the prim girls are making. I love tin also and have a few of those plates, but never thought of actually using them! |

SHERRI .. some of the more uninque pieces can indeed go pretty high .. i bet her pail is adorable!
i pay up to about ten or twelve dollars for my grey granitware pie tins .. and often a LOT less .. they usually have a few 'dings' in them .. but that is o.k. .. as long as the bottom isn't rusty (where the food goes!)

jill .. i don't see a lot of the 'olde' blue spongeware .. but i'm not on the look-out for BLUE .. sooo .. maybe there is more there and i've just missed it. i don't have any .. but usta'. i have a nice collection of tickings .. mostly BLUE (a few tans and one with red in it). thought i'd use it more in crafting .. but find that i don't .. i will probably cut up what i have and sell it in pieces through my shoppe. xo

Maybe, because I'm an an antique, I'm drawn to them like flies to honey! Love old glassware, especially the depression era glass. Have several pieces of the pink with the roses.
Also, love old coffee cups, mugs, etc. Have several pieces of the old dark brown "crock" type dishes. Some of the grocery stores (maybe Safeway) did a promotion using them. I have a complete set of the tall mugs in those.
Mom and all my aunts had Fiesta Ware ~ so, I like that stuff, especially the older colors.
We have some granite ware, mostly in the blue. And we use it. I also have several granite plates that are white with the rim trimmed in dark blue.
Some of my cast iron is definitely antiques! And we use all of it except the big bean pot, 'cause it is so darn heavy to lift.
Well ~ that's the kitchen.

I have several pieces of furniture, in various conditions. Included in that is a library table that belonged to my greatgrandfather. His name was Elijah Howard and he was 3 when his family fled Atlanta during Sherman's march to the sea. I have no idea how old the table is though.
By way of my aunt I have a beautiful bowl and pitcher set that is done in dark greens with purple grapes painted on it. My aunt bought it at an antique shop in London during the early 60's. Also have a pair of brass candle sticks that stand about 14 inches tall she bought at the same time.

From my mil, we have a coverlet (or bedspread, but she calls this piece a coverlet). The cotton used was grown on her family's farm prior to the Civil War. And it belonged to her grandmother.
She, my mominlaw, will be 90 Oct. 1.

As for what is hot? ~ I notice a lot of push plows and wash pots used in landscaping. And I've noticed several old saws, both painted and not painted, used inside.
Like I said, I like it all! Even what was bought at the old 5 & 10 was sooooo much better quality than what we pay big bucks for now!
Oh yeah! ~ Dh, he's a pretty fair antique himself! *Smile*

Anything "Green", but in the old fashion sense- I saw a place advertising clotheslines w/ wooden clothespin, a wash bucket and a drying rack. I thought it was cute.

for me it has been retro 50's type things..like retro 50's style chicken items..and then dutch items..and so forth..and pretty linens.
I don't keep up with trends anymore..just collect what makes me happy.
And have been focusing on trying to find antique type things here and there.

As some of you know, I volunteer at our historical society's consignment shop. What is selling right now is jewelry, pretty cups and saucers, BUTTONS! (no surprise there), and fancy handkerchiefs. Also old children's books, cookbooks, postcards and other paper ephemera. And the planters I've put together -- geraniums and other flowers in old watering cans, French flower tins, vintage flower pots -- have sold out. With the economy the way it is, larger/ more expensive items are selling but not as often; little indulgences are flying out the door.

Oh, Frannie -- yes, these are things we've all collected for years! I guess I'm just addressing what's hot as far as what is selling.
Interesting question. I think what is 'hot' is somewhat regional as well. Primitives and old kitchen items just do nothing around here, but other areas do well with those. Quilts have fallen off a bit here, but as Susan has said, in Amish country they are very popular. I'm seeing much more interest in mid-century furniture and 'vintage modern' items in our area (urban/suburban). And even 70s items are beginning to be collected.
And isn't it great to have a wide range of collectors? I am always fascinated by what 'speaks' to someone, what compells them to buy.
