One of our group's thoughts is to get a couple of Angora Does. For those stitchery weaving types out there ... is Angora hair worth the marketing? What does Angora hair go for raw? I don't know how to do anything with it .. aside from shearing it off the goat of course ... and am wondering if that side business would be of benifit for us.
I have kept at least one angora goat (I have a little doe now) for about the past 8 years and they are small and easy to keep..I have never sold my mohair, but I am sure there is a market for it. I would talk to a spinning and weaving group to get ideas, or if there is a spinning shop near you check to see what they charge for raw fibers. I know some folks buy it for "santa beards" too. The ones that craft the really elaborate Father Christmas type santas. Mohair is nice stuff and is worth more when the goat is younger as it gets coarser with age. It accepts dyes really well and is shimmery soft and light. I love it. Good luck!!
