start shopping for or making Christmas gifts?

Before the kids came along, I started my shopping in September. Since the kids, I am usually at crunch time. I have always hated putting things off till the last minute and this year I am determined to get back being the early bird.

I shop all year and avoid the stores in November and December unless I REALLY need something. I set a budget and I really have been make a conscious effort into what we get.

I start in August but I am normally crunching as well around the end of Nov. I do try to make all of my gifts however, some are hard however as they do not appreciate gifts that I make.

I try to shop for other than children all year long. But for the kids I have found that in November they have the best sales on electronics-I have boys.

Blessings!

I usually do the November and December shopping which I hate every year. Too many people, too messy, can't decide. This year I am going to try and start in September.

I started this past weekend. I'm making some and buying some. I know just what you mean, AngiKay. My guy is one of them that I can't make anything for. And to make it worse, everything he enjoys is kind of expensive.
My dad is just impossible to shop for. Most dads are into tools or have some kind hobby like golf. My pop really isn't into anything. He really likes my homemade candies but he just had a bunch of dental work done so I don't think that's a good idea.

Last year it was Christmas eve. Ok I know, it is aweful. If I had my way it would at least be in november...but pinning hubby down to shop is worse then pulling teeth, and of course he doesnt want to be left out. He tends to leave things to the last minute. A quality in him that although I love him dearly drives me to distraction, if I let it.

Every year I say I'm going to start way ahead of time, and sometimes I do but then i usually lose all the items. This year I'm going to have a specific location to hurl finished items into. I've said that before, but I seldom follow through on that part. I like to stockpile books for my great nephews and things like that. Good to get a reminder, time to start...

I plan to have a booth at our towns annual "Christmas in The Country" craft fair Nov 1 and 2, so I'm making Christmas wreaths already. I usally do my Christmas shopping right after Thanksgiving. I love shopping when the stores are all decorated, makes it feel festive and more fun.

I've been THINKING about Christmas, but, since I quit my job last October, I no longer have my "MAD" money and am on a VERY strict budget!!! (Hubby is not so keen on sharing the CASH)

I have been thinking about it for awhile now, and I will probably do what I did last year. Everyone got a USEFUL gift from me. (Except my brother-- he got a basket of goodies and an animated PIG that OINKED a Christmas song and yelled out "MERRY CHRISTMAS!" It was HOURS of entertainment for him, and a GREAT joke!! He LOVED it!) I made a lot of baked goods and put them into casserol dishes with glass lids (Martha Stewart-- $8.00 ea at Kmart). Then I prettied them up with cute cello wrap, ribbon and a special Christmas ornament for each family (for the in-laws. My siblings gifts were a bit more personal-- since I did all the shopping). Everyone liked the idea. Now I just need to figure out what I'm going to do THIS year! Any suggestions? ~~~ Tracy

Oh, my Sisters-in-law and my mother-in-law are the CRAFTY-EST ladies I know! My mother-in-laws HOUSE was featured in "Romantic Homes" in the May issue-- so I don't MAKE them ANYTHING craft-wise. It would pale in comparison to THEIR "crafts." (which is an understatement of the word CRAFT!)

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away. ~~ George Carlin

I've bought a few presents earlier this year. I ran into a great 75% off sale at a little primitives gift shop in town. Normally I start thinking about getting started on gifts in early October, but that sale was too good not to take advantage of. And it was things I knew the people I bought them for wanted.

When we lived in the city, I always started at the after Christmas sales. Now???? Oh, somewhere around December 18th or so. Yikes! I'm doing better this year. I just won an auction on ebay for one of my bosses Christmas gifts! Maybe I'll actually do better this year!

Handmade Christmas badge? What's that? I've heard a lot about the 'badges', but aren't real clear on them. Last year, all my gifts were handmade. I did 'Paradise' baskets that included handwoven dishtowels, lye soaps, candles and goodies I canned in my kitchen from things I grew in my garden. Would that count?

I would love to say that I work on it all year long to avoid undo stress but I am a true procrastinator. I did go purchase the fabric for my sisters quilt this weekend though because I want to have it to the quilter no later than the end of September. I also have purchased all of the tea towels I need to get embroidered.

Last year adults got a basket with homemade wine, and preserves....this year will be the same.
The young ones...well, whenever I have a few dollars, and see something that I just know they would like, I will pick it up.
I still feel like I have so much to do at crunch time, but if anything, Christmas day things are settled.
