It's a gloomy day here, but several things have made me happy...like going to the market in yellow galloshes. Just thought I'd see what other "little things" inspire everyone.

Seeing birds take a "dirt" bath...now that is a contradiction in terms! Yellow golashes! How fun is that Judes!!!

Obseving children and animals play; 2 people being kind and generous with each other; my children arrivig at our home and rushing for hugs; waiting at the baggage pickup in the airport for my son and his family and they finally arrive; this site; mail art arriving;
Being withness to the rebuidling of our city after Rita and seeing lives struggling to be "OK" (may be a few tears also)

Many things, but last night I couldn't stop smiling, watching my 11 year old son watching Ice Age, eating popcorn out of the red/white popcorn box (I found a little package of them at a store recently) and drinking root beer out of a bottle. He was having the time of his life, laughing and eating!

My dear little nephew when he asks "auntie lets go do some work".
My lab Lily with her tail a-waggin when she finds me wherever I'm working on the farm.
Little birds on my windowsill taking shelter from the rain.
The grey squirrel with an apple bigger than his head, running down the driveway with his treasure.
Sprouting seeds in the spring.
I could go on and on...life offers so many things to smile about!

Kim! I gtta step on the leaves and crush them too. It's probably my favorite sound ever. Best done in the afternoon when all the dew had evaporated, before that their too moist and no crunch. I love when the bird splash aorund in the bird bath I have to say I really enjoy that. The smell of wood fire on the cool air of an autumn evening.

Seeing big piles of neatly raked leaves...and I want to jump in them and play and throw them about like a 6 year old! I love the smell of old leaves! They bring out the kid in me! The way squirrels twitch their tails. Why do they do that?

Alicia, you took the words right out of my mouth!....BABIES!...always, babies! and hugs from my children, and bed snuggles under covers when the weather finally turns cold, the smell of leaves burning and logs in fireplaces, lit jack-o-lanterns,hot chocolate with fat marshmellows! Meadowlark, raking leaves makes me smile, so i'll rake & you can jump!
MAILART!!! Watching the squirrels bury acorns..well, this really makes me laugh out loud the way they bury it deep then pat it down and look around to see if anyone saw,new friends on the farmgirl connection!
thanks judes for the inspiration!

You guys are the inspiring ones! This is exactly what I'd hoped! There are so many beautiful things & priceless moments....and they often go unshared! Here are mine for the day....The smell of freshly licked kitten fur (if you've never smelled a cat just after it's given itself a bath I urge you to do so...it's the CUTEST smell in the world, second to the smell of a baby, but I don't have any of those yet) , my friend's 18 month old daughter in her little red velvet beret & overalls yelling "OSCA! ...OSCA!!...." at my metal garbage can, comfy clothes that fit, pumpkin luminaries....the "Loony Garden Kit" I made for my mom for her birthday (filled with every spring blooming bulb that fits the description "looks like it was made by Dr.Suess" She would have never chosen the bulbs herself, but when they bloom just after the snow melts she'll have an instant dose of whimsey in her garden) ...HOMEMADE ASIAGO BREAD...leaves changing...

Alicia...you reminded me of a funny photo. I'll post it on my blog! We had a squirrel who murdered our Sunflowers...one by one, one per day. We had no idea where our sunflowers were going and it seemed so deliberate & premeditated to us...the way they were slowly dissapearing. I even asked my landlord if he'd been chopping off the heads of our sunflowers! Then one day I caught the criminal in the act! I was cracking up for days just thinking about this little squirrel running around with a MAMMOTH sunflower head in his mouth. It was twice his size! When I came towards him with my camera (he let me get pretty close) ...he ran up the tree with one paw ( holding the sunflower between his teeth & his other paw!)

My 3 year old neice yelling "find me!" from under the dining room table when we play hide and seek. Anticipating a quiet evening at home in the middle of the work day. This site (got up 15 minutes early to get some chat time to start the day!)! Walking into the house and smelling dinner being cooked.

My bluejays. I got them trained that when I ring a bell they know I'm puting peanuts on the windowsill for them to gobble up. Ah, but it's so much better when my grandchildren are there to see.
Bluejays, babies and clouds rolling on by.

Often I'll go to my childrens' rooms and look at them in the middle of the night.....that makes me smile and cry. Oh, that I would be so Blessed to have them!

I smile when I watch my hubby wrestle with the girls on the trampoline.

I smile when my pot belly pig, Cookie, comes running up to me in the mornings.

Blessings
Catherine

I have bad memories of a blue jay momma bird that attacked my head when I was trying to help her baby that had fallen out of the nest. She grabbed onto my hair and pecked and didn't stop until I made it to the door after running across the yard with her attached to me. I was around 10 years old. Oh no, I think I'll have a nightmare tonight now that I've brought that up!

One of the best compliments from one of my daughters: "Moma, you smell good...like dirt."

Looking out from the barn door at the spring rain lightly coming down, with the sun trying to shine, while I wait for baby goats to be born.It was a such a nice time when we had goats, the serenilty (sp) and quietness of it all.
My two Corgi dogs playing and chasing around with thier little short legs just going like crazy.

My doggies, when they play, or when they want to play with me, or want a snuggle. Or even now, looking at one huddled in front of the ceramic heater after having been outside for potty.

Spring - because it is so new to me. DH hasn't seen it yet, but this year he will. :)

Fall - also so new to both of us. We walked around gaping and pointing like a couple of Floridians who have never seen Fall before.

My plants - like when a new seed sprouts, or I find a new plant that has to come home, or when picking fruits.

My hubby, when he gives me an unexpected hug.

Absolutely -- babies of all kinds make me smile, too...the squirrel hanging from his toes off the feeder in order to get sunflower seeds...my dog following me EVERYwhere EVERY night until I take the time to sit down on the couch for our "hugs"...watching the sun rise every morning on my way to work...my husband sleeping next to me with just his eyes showing under the covers...the thought of my first grandbaby on his way in just 8 weeks...the list is really endless if we stop to look!

DH snoozing in his big leather chair with one of our kitties snoozing on his tummy. Little tiny titmouse birds eating on the suet I put out for them. The little bunnies I see every morning on the lawn in front of the building I work at, hopping around. The Canadian geese I see at lunch at the park, eating, sitting in the sun, just hangin' out.

All the things I'm here make me smile. There are so many things that make me smile..Little things and gestures that DH does that no one else notices, Seeing the moon in the sky or when she shines her light into my window, the birds that bounce around on the deck eating the seed I put out for them, hummingbirds that buzz around with their chirps, babies, oh there are just so many things.
