I get a magazine called the Kentucky Explorer that focuses on the history of Kentucky told by the kinfolks of ancestors that have lived here over the years. There is a section that has Post Office names in different counties over the years. I saw some of the funniest and odd names on there.

Most folks know about Monkeys Eyebrow, Kentucky. Did you know we have a Black Gnat, Wisdom, Poverty, Lemon, Salt Lick, Beaver Dam, Flippin, and Cow Creek? Oh and we are international with Paris, London, and Versailles (pronounced like "fer-sales" not like the French one). Follow the yellow brick road to our town of Oz, Kentucky. Then you might find "Nonesuch, KY". But we do have a Bethleham and people still send postcards to get postmarked in time for Christmas. We also have a few other oddities, but it makes Kentucky interesting and makes you wonder what the heck they were thinking when they were naming towns.

What are some odd town names in your neck of the woods?

Washington has bunches of different names. Off the top of my head---Humptulips, Pe Ell, Stillaguamish I could go on but not now.
PS. I almost forgot--George, Washington with a cafe called--Martha's Inn. MB

Just a few miles away from here are Gobblers Knob, Toad Hop, and Moonshine.

My favorite in Kentucky is Hell's Half Acre, and LORDY, it is just that. Justin and I weren't sure we'd get out without being shot. It's just over the Pendleton/Bourbon County line if anyone is ever interested in visting ;)

Hysterical--and oh so true, Lisa! We found this on the map and Justin just HAD to go...at one time, it was a lively town anchored by a large land baron's home, which is gone and now is left just an overgrown family cemetery and a bunch of burned out trailers (that people are still living in).

My son lived in Kentucky 6 years ago in a town called Possum Trot. HE got me a t-shirt at the time that says.."Where the Heck is Paducah, Kentucky?...right between Monkey's Eyebrow and Possum Trot!" I love that.
I don't know as many of Utah's weird ones...there is one though....
Levan ..it is told that it is the middle of the state and got the name because Levan is Navel spelled backwards.

I know where Possum Trot is Jenny!!! Why did he live there? So glad you got a t-shirt out of it, anyway :)

I was thinking of others that are right around me...the well known Rabbit Hash, of course, right down the road, and also Sugar Tit (which has been absorbed into the city of Union) are two that I can think of right off the bat.

Oh...just wanted to add that I would NOT want to list my address as "Intercourse", Pennsylvania...though I'm sure it's a lovely place, Susan ;)

We have a town close to us named "Venice." Now, we all know that Venice (the one in ITALY) is famous as a canal city - a "floating" city. Well... I suppose some really creative folks around here thought the same thing about this lovely little village - it has our irrigation canal running right through the middle of it! I sort of fantasize about somehow floating a gondola down it someday....

These names are HILARIOUS!!!

XOXO, Libbie

Here are some from the places where I have lived or had relatives:

Two Egg, Florida

Fertile, Iowa

Manly, Iowa

Folks used to kid that they saw in the paper where a Manly guy married a Fertile gal. :)

We have a Havana and a Cairo, near here in Florida and Georgia, but they pronounce them Hayvana, and Cayro.
