I'm not a sewer. Wish I could be. What kind of things or sewing projects does one do with buttons? Maybe I could try one. Let me know. Thanks. Marly |

I sewed a variety of black buttons in a random pattern on a white sweatshirt once. It was neat--got alot of compliments on it. You could display some in decorative or old canning jars. You could hot glue some on a bedroom lampshade along with some fringe or rick rack. I'm sure you'll get lots of other suggestions.

You could string them up with strips of homespun to make a garland. Replace a teddy bear or doll eye. Glue them to little girl barrettes or headbands. Decorate an old pin keep with a button and hat pin. Make earings. Sew or glue onto grosgrain ribbon for a bookmark. Hmmmm, got me thinking...

I put buttons on my scrapbook pages, on cards that I make, in the center of my yo'yo's sometimes, and sometimes string them up for garland for decorations.

How kind of you all to answer. Thanks ladies for all the suggestions. I have lots of buttons I've been saving. I'll have to try to do something with them. I like the idea about putting the buttons in a nice jar for show. Interesting. Thanks,, again. Marly |

I made a few bracelets with some of mine and I sew them on the tote bags I make for embellishment. Whatever your mind can think up - button it up!

I use them on cards, projects, bracelets, clothing, random art items, etc. I love having buttons around to embellish things. I have a collection of buttons I keep trying to add to.

Ada Mae: That is a cool idea about putting/sewing buttons on a lampshade. Thanks. However, I can't add any fringe, I have cats. My Zoe cat will go after any thing that waves in the air. LOL She has managed to destroy my carpet in areas. Thanks for that great idea, Ada Mae. Marly |

Laura: The idea of making a Button Tree for Christmas is grand. It must take alot of buttons, or am I not understanding the process? Thinking about it, I could use only the green and red buttons! How neat!! Thanks Laura. Marly |

I know what you mean about cats and movement--so fringe wouldn't be a good idea. I have a pup that is destroying the baseboard and door frames in my laundry room (where he is staying right now). I have scolded andspanked him, but to no avail.

When my cats are getting after something, I get the water bottle out. Of course, I can't let them see me squirting the water from the bottle. They are much too smart. They'll make it into a game. However, if they don't know where they water is coming from, they'll stop their messing. LOL Those cats make me laugh all day! Ada Mae- is the pup eating the baseboards and door frame? Maybe it's teething. Good luck. Marly |

I have seen them used to tie off a quilt. I have used them for flower tops on embroidery. and of course for traditional sewing. I have used a button closure for pillow cover backs and for duvet covers. I keep a jar of them and the kids Love to dump them out and sort them (learing through play). Most grown ups have to stick thier hand in the jar as well. Many of them were my grandmothers, my mothers and my husbands grandmothers. |

This past Christmas my 7 year old made a multi-colored tree and it was really pretty. I made an all white one & this year we are hoping to make an all pink one. By the way if anyone has any pink buttons they'd like to get rid of let me know!!

Thank all of you for such great ideas. My buttons are out, and my quilt is on my lap. I'm sewing buttons in the middle of the blocks. What a great idea. Marly |

Tammy: The buttons on top of the quilt look really nice. I hope my cat doesn't pull them off. I've anchored them down really tight! Marly |
