A garden center that is going out of business sold me some "Garlic" in a half gallon pot. It smelled like garlic and since I have never grown garlic before I assumed it was. When I got home I realized it isn't cultivated garlic but rather a wild variety that is called "Society Garlic" The leaves and flowers are edible but the didn't say anything about the root structure. I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't cultivated garlic until I got in and Googled the plant. How cool!

Alee- I have society garlic in my garden and it comes back year after year. The only problem with it is that when it dies back in the winter, it smells like skunk. I love the color of the flowers though.

Hmmm...I wonder if cutting it back before die-back would help that problem?

I have oodles of it. We have mild winters so sometimes it doesn't die back at all. The flowers are pretty and it takes full sun and little care. I have to thin mine regularly- it multiplies fast!

grown as an ormanental perennial here..basically as a border plant in flower beds.
Pretty drought tolerant and likes sun.

I can't wait to cut some of the leaves and try them in a salad!
