I forgot one that I've been really trying hard to get over...it's difficult to explain, and I've been doing it since I was 7 or so, so it's so much a part of me that I didn't even think it a quirk...but boy howdy, is it!

When driving in a car as a passenger, I clench my teeth on "grassy parts" and unclench them on "paved" parts of the sidescape we pass by. So, um, it's REAL fun driving down a country road, or subdivision! I started doing it when I was little, I think because I rode with my dad a lot and he was intimidating, and silence was VERY silent--needed something to do :)

I'm enjoying reading these! Heather, I love Jon and Kate + 8 too! Those children are adorable and I like watching how they deal with situations as a large, loving family. Growing up as an only child I can't even imagine having that many siblings.

I have quite a few quirks but the main ones that have been pointed out to me are:

I love to plan things and draw up lists and itineraries. I can be a spur-of-the-moment kind of person when it's needed but I do love mapping out trips and events. I've even planned entire vacations, well dream vacations, that we may or may not ever take. I love making lists of my daily tasks and I have a calendar that I fill in at the first of every month of the things I need to get done each day.

I have a set pattern of what I do each morning and if I don't follow the routine for some reason I have a sense of loss or feel that something is missing the rest of the day. I wake up at the same time every morning, shower and dress at a set time and order, usually eat the same breakfast sandwich, let Lizzie out at the same time, and when I go to work I take the 'scenic' route as my husband calls it. It takes a bit longer than the straight path but it's so pretty and gives me time to think. Now the rest of the day can be varied, but there's some comfort for me in having the morning routine. Oh, and on weekends I'm ok with change and different things... now I know that's weird, but that's just me.

I like to make up silly songs for different activities. One example would be when I give Lizzie, my golden, her bath I've made up songs for each part of the bathing process. When my husband gives her a bath and doesn't sing she will turn and look at him like he's doing it all wrong.

I've been keeping a seasonal/weather journal for some years now. I think I've always enjoyed observing nature but it feels good recording the observations down. I don't plan to do anything with the information. Maybe it's just personal reference for planting times, but it's nice watching the differences and similarities from year to year. And when anything new catches my fancy and I don't know much about it I will research it for hours, days, or weeks until I feel I have a grasp on it.

Oh, and I like to separate my m&ms by color before I eat them too most of the time. And one more thing. I have a thing about newspapers. I don't like how they smell or feel. When I was a kid if I had to touch one it gave me the chills. Even to this day I have to go and wash my hands after reading or touching one.

This really is a fun topic!! I also get nervous around the refrigerator dough things. I HATE balloons and am constantly cringing whenever they are around me (which isn't very often these days as the kids are all grown)...... expecting the loud pop. And I can't understand why my dog is afraid of gunshots or loud claps of thunder.....he gets my nervousness!! Oh the toilet paper thing, yes....everywhere I go I turn it around. Silly really ...but it bugs me. I am a horrible rider in the car, am constantly grabbing the door handle/arm rest thing............used to annoy a person that I used to know so that he would get ugly at me when I made my scared noise and grab the arm rest..... oh well, don't have to worry about him anymore. Maybe I'll think of more.....

I'll eat mayo in something like potato salad or deviled eggs, but if it's on a sandwich it makes me gag.

I eat grapes two at a time, one on each side of my mouth.

I can't STAND cupboard doors left open or ajar. Even when I'm at someone else's house, I have to shut them.

When I'm eating chips or veggies with dip, I try to get perfect amounts of each...I hate having extras of one or the other.

In the grocery store, when someone walks closely by me, I hold my breath until they pass.

It makes me happy to eat m&ms. It's the color, not really the flavor.

I love thunderstorms, even though I live in tornado country.

This topic is great!

I cant stand anything on my car dashboard, my spouse throws everything but the kitchen sink on his. I love the pink hostess snowballs. I say 'Holy Buckets' when most would say 'Holy _ _ _ t!, I love the 70's show and just recently found out what they are really doing when they have that circle of friends thing in what looked like a smoky room to me, I ususally cant remember the exact name of whatever thing I want to talk about, but after saying something simular to it, my friends can always tell me what I am thinking of, i never leave the toaster plugged into the wall after using it. I dont care if any other appliance is left plugged in, just not the toaster. I think I am afraid it will come to life or something...

OMG..............the toaster just talked to me!!! LOL
These are soooo funny and I honestly think this is very good therapy. The refrigerator biscuit dough....a couple of you have mentioned it. I recall reading a story about a lady who had bought some of those biscuits..along with other things. She put her groceries in the back seat...and when she got in the drivers seat and was getting ready to drive, she heard a loud bang and then something hit her in the back of the head. When she reached up and felt the back of her head there was gooey white stuff all over it. She thought she had been shot....and she kept her hand up there to hold lher brains in until help arrived. Can you imagine??? Bless her heart....I guess she called 911 from her cell phone...and told them she had been shot in the back of the head.
So yeah.....I think I have to add "being skiddish around refrigerator biscuit dough containers"...and balloons.
As I have been reading all the quirks...I have been saying to myself...."yep, got that one too"....maybe a bit more than I'm really comfortable with. LOL
Laughter IS really one of the best medicines.

OH, that poor lady. Can you imagine? I just wish it was biscuit dough for everyone else, what a happy surprize that would be instead of being shot. :) These quirks are so much fun!

Oh, besides mayo (cringe) if someone bites on their silverware, I get the heebie jeebies. Just thinking about it I'm cringing. Ack. Don't know where that one comes from.

We make a difference.

Oh I thought of another one. Static. I hate it!! I won't listen to a radio station or watch a tv channel with the littlest bit of static. The channel can go to static for 2 seconds and I'll flip it. And when I'm yapping at one of my best friends on the phone and she goes into her bedroom, her cordless will go all static. Oh drives me nuts and she knows it too.
Once when my oldest was just a teeney baby she got a major case of the fussies one night. I could not get her to quiet for anything. She wasn't hungry, dirty, wouldn't play, wouldn't even go to sleep for a car ride. Know what finally got her settled??? I had turned on the tv, I was going to put in a cartoon movie. Channel 3 of course was nothing but snow and awful cracklin sound. Instantly she shushed. Imagine my delight when I had to lay on the living room floor with her all night with the tv on fuzz and sleep. Eeewww wasn't I a fun mommy the next morning.

Wow! This has been very interesting to read, ya'll make me feel normal! I suppose the one thing that my kids would complain about the most or at least send them out the door and down the street the quickest is when I do my video marathon. I love the Wilderness Family saga. The 3 videos are approximately 6 hours. I have watched them so much, I have them memorized. In fact, I don't even have to really watch them anymore! My daughter found them on DVD and gave them to me last year for my birthday! She knows I have just about worn out the set I have!! Another thing that bothers me is a skein of yarn that is all knotted. I spent 5 hours Wednesday untangling and rerolling a skein for my cousin. I just could not stand to see it lie there all tangled up!! It was some of that fancy stuff that has little knobbies so it was very interesting getting untangled! She said she was tempted to just wrap it in plastic and not use it after I finished!!

You can take the farmer's daughter off the farm but you can't take the farm out of the farmer's daughter!!

Oh the Wilderness family. I love those too..even though they are a little (lot) hokey...I still watch them (I have all three) at least once a year..and my kids, who used to love them as much as I do, can't get away fast enough. Oh well.

Hmmm, *metal note to self concerning Georgette.. never send her ballons, EVER, remove all refrigerator biscuts from her sight, take the toliet paper roll OFF the holder and simply set it on the sink ledge(just to see what she does)and 1. either put blinders on her when she is the passenger or let HER drive for peace of mind, lol
You know I luvs you neighbor sista ( :

Ok, my biggest quirk is this............. SWALLOWING PILLS!!!!!!!
I'm fairly ok with anthing the size and shape of an advil or smaller.. but anything remotely big will get CHEWED.. no matter the taste. It's kind of embrassing when at my age, I have to quiz the Dr. or pharmacist on the size of the meds prescribed and ask if I can chew them, lol. Normally, I put the pills in something like a "ho ho" yummmmmmmmmy, chocolate makes the medicine go down in the most delightful way!!! It's aways beenthis way for me. My mom used to have to crush up baby asprin for me and mix it with water on a spoon, lol. Now that I am a big girl, I can crunch it up all on my own.
I used to have to crush and mix my prenatal vits with applesauce. I saw those and thought, they were big enough to choke a horse.
My son is the same, he won't swallow pills.. good thing they now make chewable tylenol and he only likes grape flavored medicine.

I do "knock on wood" put I got that habit from my grandmother and I am not even aware when I do it.

I hate getting lost because my sense of direction is so bad, I can lose my way in a paper bag, lol

I suck at math BUT I can make a purse from a sows ear.

I used to eat peanut butter mixed with mayo on bananas..LOVE IT but I can't eat peanut butter anymore and just the smell of peanuts can make my gag now, lol

I love kimchi on anything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I eat pretzels and potatoe chips at the same time. Something about the flavor mix I like and when I was younger, I used to dip pretzels in milk.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm, are those the men in white coats coming ??????? at least I am not the only one here.. I'll just simply blend into this crowd, LOL

Great thread and it is fun to laugh at ourselves..

Michelle, that's funny that you mention the teeth on the fork thing. I can't touch my lips to the fork or spoon (I guess that's another quirk) and so I HAVE to use my teeth and my hubby just hates that! So, I pretty much have it down and I can get the food off the fork and spoon, still with my teeth, without my teeth scraping on it. Now everybody's happy!

I can't stand anything except my centerpiece on my dining room or kitchen tables.
Crooked pictures drive me crazy.
I can't stand it when someone cracks their knuckles!
I hum. A lot.
Don't watch much tv.
If I wake up during the night, no matter what time it is, I never go back to sleep. Ever.
Lemonade gives me the hiccups.
Coughing makes me sneeze.
I have to keep my cellphone in a certain pocket of my purse or I can't find it and freak!
I have to brush my teeth after EVERY time I eat.
That about does it for me! Susan

As soon as I am finished eating at a restaurant, I want the plate GONE. I will push it far away & hubby knows that, so he will always push it right back in my face. Also hate any kind of chewing noises(chompers beware) & do not like whistling(which drives hubby nuts..he says. Whistling means people are happy right??)Can't explain that one.. HATE having any moisture on my socks.. As soon as the least little bit of water gets on them..they get changed.

I like mustard and pickles on sandwiches and pickles on peanutbutter crackers. Ritz are the best for this!

i can't stand dirty dishes or any dishes in the sink or counter. If they need cleaning or putting away, its done at that moment. Helps to keep a cleaner kitchen when i'm cooking, but can get tiresome

I can't do math to save me, but can make killer jams and jellies

I have terrible direction sense and would rather buy someone's lunch so they will drive us around

I love peanut M&M's but roll the outer coating around and spit out the peanut this is probably my weirdest quirk

I can't blow my nose quietly

I sleep w/ earplugs in my ears and have done so for over 15 years!

I guess it's more of a talent than a quirk. haha. But I just had to figure out how to do it without grossing myself out and avoid the glares from dh at the same time. I just can't stand getting food or anything on my lips. Ick!

Oh wow, is this fun and theraputic! Apparently, I'm not quite the "freak" some may belive me to be! Heather and Melanie, I too am a Virgo and while I have become (way) more tolerant of clutter, it has to be my highly organized clutter, not the stuff left by others. I hate crooked pictures and will straighten them any where I see them. TP must come from the top of the roll and I will change that too. I have been know to straighten out the "tupperware" cupboards at friend's homes because they are disorganized. I sort candies by color and eat the ones I have the most of first. M&M's are always eaten one at a time. I have to be able to stick my feet out of the covers at night; can't stand hot feet. I keep my paper money sorted in my wallet (all ones together, etc.). My clothes get hung by like-kind in the closet...sleeveless shirts, then short, then long. Within those groups are sub-groups like short sleeves with collars, then without... My "secret" TV shows are Jon and Kate +8; Deadliest Catch and Jeopardy. I'm sure there are more, but that's all I'll confess to right now.

Oh gals!! HAHAHAHAHA I know what you mean Sleepless. My kitchen cabinets are organized just so so. My sister's pots and pans drive me crazy. I swear she just opens the door and throws everything in. LOL I'm guilty on the closet thing too. Not only are my clothes organized by like-kind but also by color.

I thought the color arrangement goes without saying... You know, as much as I don't go for the whole astrology thing, there is SOMETHING to the signs we are all born under. Just look at how many of us are virgos and do things the same/RIGHT way!!! hehehehehe
