While sweating myself into oblivion outside the other day, I noticed it was thundering to the South. I kept wishing it would rain, and if it did, what I would do inside -- finish warping my loom, try out a new bread recipe I wanted to try (with fresh blueberries and cinnamon, to make a loaf for French Toast) or even just clean out that linen closet that has demons in it who enjoy tossing all my clean linens on the floor when the door closes. So, I was curious about other farm girls. If you had a rainy day, how would you spend it?

from the hearts of paradise...

well .. we've got a rainy morning this here morning ... soooooo .. i'm gonna' go root through treasures!

rain rarely stops me from doing or going .. (don't go outside if it is LIGHTENING though .. we had a HUGE lightening storm yesterday .. i was travelling the back roads .. and all i could think of as i saw the 'heaven to earth' streaks was praying that honey hunk had gotten off the lake by then! he did .. he was safely back in his truck and on the way home.

Honestly? My house is so disorganized right now that I spend it cleaning and organizing. I wish I could wave a magic wand and have everything fly to it's spot and not bother me anymore! LOL

If I had my way I would spend a rainy day sewing something special, playing with Nora, and maybe doing some embroidery!

When it's rainy I like to put on something that has to be slow cooked, so the house smells welcoming. Start a load of laundry - something that needs a little bleach, so the house smells clean and then put my feet up and read or write. Unfortunately, now that I have finished daydreaming, rainy days are usually pretty much like any other day. The outside chores still gotta be done, kids still run in and out ~ mud and all and dh still needs a "go-for" which is my job. :-)

It hardly ever rains here in the summer and if it does it's usually just a passing shower. Many days I'll actually stand in the rain. If it's thundering I'll stand at my front window and watch it till it passes. In the winter I like toread embroider or crochet.

It is raining today and I will take a hot bath because it is cool enough. Enjoy all the colors of my flowers after they have gotton a nice shower. Read a great book and bake something and do a pot roast or something of that nature for dinner.

Julie, what are you weaving? Someday I hope to have another floor loom. I had one but with the size of our house and all of the little ones it just was taking up too much space. Someone else needed it.. I have a triangle loom that I enjoy weaving on- I am almost done with Sage's shawl. I would love to get a 32" rigid heddle with stand- that way I could store it away.. I want to weave placemats, table runners etc...
On a rainy day.. We get them so rarely here.. but we love them- having lived in Oregon for so long. If the house is clean.. the littles watch a movie, the olders read, play guitar, go online.. I knit, weave, quilt.. I love the rain!

Blessings, Debra

Rainy days...good for curling up on the couch with the kids watching movies. I try to use that time to do some cleaning too. Then unfortunately I spend alot of time wiping up the mud that the dogs bring in on those days. YUK. I love to sit on the porch at the cabin with my dh durring a good thunderstorm.

I would like to sit on a wrap-around porch watching the rain, and thanking the good Lord for providing the beauty of it all.

LOL! I do that too Corrine- then come inside get a nice warm towel and rub myself dry. Then I get dressed in warm cuddly clothes and curl up with a book! Or at least I did that pre-Nora...Now I have to get her warm and dry before I can be warm and dry! LOL

Rainy days and I are no longer good friends, my arthritis misbehaves when the rain really comes down. Tonight we are having a really nice thunderstorm and I hope it will water the garden AND clear the air. I love the way things smell after a nice soaking, and everything looks slightly refreshed, we need more rain I think. I planned to do some hand sewing tonight but my hands are saying that I can barely type so I think it is off to bed for me....
