I believe that we are less patient. More hurried, and way too preoccupied with how skinny and beautiful we can all be.

it would be interesting to all sit down and talk to our parents and see how they think THEIR generation was different from THEIR parent's list. the good stuff and the not-so-good stuff. i know my parents went through the GREAT DEPRESSION .. and it did indeed make them more frugal and attentive to their outside the home jobs.

I'm a later year baby boomer - and think we are much more materialistic than our parents' generation. Too often our "things" define who we are as a person or a family. We let it drive our self-esteem and self-worth.
My mom and dad would talk about the simple things that made them happy and feel fulfilled. Mom use to say they were poor, but didn't feel poor because everyone in that area of St. Joe was in the same financial situation. They had a nice roof over their heads, food to eat and my mom and aunt would work odd jobs for spending money. Now people want everything handed to them.
I heard on the radio last week that the divorce rate in New York had jumped significnatly because women were divorcing their husband's who had lost tons of money in the current economy. So much for "for beter or worse; for richer or poorer". I guess they were only looking at the richer part.
I look at my daughter's generation a feel really sad. These kids have soooo much given to them. They don't appreciate what their parent's have to go through to make it all happen. I wonder how these kids are ever going to live a contented life. |

Well, I'm a Gen Y (cusp gen X) girl, which makes my parents boomers.
I'd say that my generation are less career focused than the boomers. (Super-educated, but not focused). We think nothing of jumping from job to job, and can't imagine spending our whole lives working for one company or doing one kind of work. We are more adaptable and handle change easier. I think boomers are much more patient though and have longer attention spans!

hmm...I think the biggest difference as my parents were teens in the 70s and 80s whereas I did most of my teens in the late 90s and 00s. Then, was about indpendence and toeing the line. Still a lot of old values to hold dear, but I think the biggerence difference that I notice is that now, EVERYTHING is accepted and not only that, it is FLAUNTED.No more toeing the line. We've walked so far over it, we can't see it behind us anymore.:P Things like sex, drugs, and abortions are common "talk about it to anyone" kind of things. There is little to no modesty, and about the same level of responsibility..
lol..can you tell I am disappointed in my generation?? Such potential...and yet, such indifference.
hehee on a good note, I think we can be thankful that marroon lesiure suits and afros are no longer the rage...lol
