o.k. i'm offa' here for now .. i hear kathy and crew dropping wood outside my door.
today .. they are putting a tin roof over the PORCH of the 'schoolhouse'. i want to make sure to take some 'before and after' photos!
what cha'll doin' today?

lillian .. are you building up your supply for winter already? or are you using it in a woodstove?
alee .. i have it on my list of things to do in this lifetime to make SOAP .. i don't wanna' do the 'lye' thingie though. i have bunches of books on it and a friend who does make soap that always offers for me to come make soap with her .. i gotta' take her up on it someday!!!
funny .. but i was looking at going to one of those FOLK ART PIONEER camps to make soap .. i figured up all the expenses .. classes, supplies, lodging .. and it was going to cost me over $600. to make a bar of soap (and this didn't even include the GASOLINE prices of getting there and back) .. Lordy! not that that has stopped me from going somewhere i reeeeeeeeeely wanted to go .. YET! i told my friend about it.. she told me: FRANNIE! you are NOT going to pay $600. for a BAR OF SOAP!
actually, i do know that you get a LOT MORE than just what you learn in your class at these wonderful camps! i have been to them before .. and it's the 'whole experience' and new friends you make that is worth every penny. SOMEDAY . i will get to the Joseph Campbell Folk Art Camp for a class or two!

well, they've pulled the 'sign' down (which i've been wantin' to do for a very long time .. changed the name of our farm awhile back) ... and the porch roof begins!

Lookin' good, Frannie!
Making lye soap really isn't that scary. You just have to _respect_ the lye! LOL I am shamelessly bad and don't even wear rubber gloves! *shhhh! Don't tell my mom!* The soap turned out great!
I have been avoiding the inside of the house, instead I took DH to work, mowed the back yard, picked up dog messes, moved rocks from the front of the house, pulled a ton of weeds, sritched up the soil, planted some lavender seeds, watered the lawn, watered the new flower bed, and chatted on here. Now I REALLY need to go get a handle on that laundry and do dishes. I should probably make the bed, vacuum and sweep and mop the floors. We'll see. There are still a gazillion and a half weeds out there. :(

Oh my GOSH Frannie!!! I get the catalog mailed to me from the John C. Campbell Folk Art School in North Carolina!!!!! Is that the one you mean??? ......I have been getting it for years and DROOLING over the classes and I too have thought that I have to go there sometime to take a class or two!!! They sound like such fun!!! One Day, I will just do it!!!

oh alee .. i know just what you mean .. sometimes i put what 'needs' to be done on the back-burner .. this is usually o.k. here cuz' NO KIDS .. NO JOB to report to .. this 'retirement' thing is indeed a lovely thing! HA! just wish we could all do it earlier in life!

hey sweet wilma .. i'll run out there and take them some cold lemonade and deliver your message. i have another pic to post of their progress . .but for some reason .. i can't get them 'downloaded' to the computer from my camera right now!
hank just came in and told me the whole roof is on now .. (it's a small one .. but the schoolhouse porch isn't too big!
she will start painting inside my house i think tomorrow .. lordy! i'm a whirlin' dervish pulling all those treasures offa' the wall and piling them up!
gotta' go get that lemonade (i made cookies for them too .. burnt the first batch like a house-a-fire .. next batch .. i STOOD BY the oven until they were done!

Nah.......I wouldn't want to wash my face with it!!, Would just have to display it by the front door or something, Hahah! Hmmmm maybe to make a wonderful basket or learning about hand dyeing wool for knitting.....Nah...let's see how much would it cost to go to Alee's from NM???? Gosh...I think I better just get a book and teach myself some of this stuff!!!! :)

well, they are all finished! i took some more photos .. but for some reason i can't get them to download to my computer .. will keep workin' and trying to do that. it looks GREAT .. can hardly wait to decorate it! (gotta' let the paint dry first though!) xo
WOWZER .. what a difference a porch makes (had the porch .. but the roof will give some nice shade! they re-painted the black porch too!

well, i finally got my camera to upload pics on my computer .. sooo .. i'm up-datin' the schoolhouse porch pics.

TA! DAH!!!!!
ALL DONE .. now all i have to do is 'decorate' it!
i love that it does get some early morning sun though .. cuz' i want to put plants on the porch .. and sit in the shade in the afternoon and drink iced tea and read MJ's magazines or books!

i was thinking about what i want to put on the porch driving home from louisville this evening .. since i'm 'calling' it a 'schoolhouse' .. i'm going to look for a cute 'school desk' .. and i have a wonderful BLACKBOARD to put there for 'notes' .. and i'll have my FREEDOM VALLEY SCHOOLHOUSE sign ... PLANTS .. gotta' have PLANTS .. and a comfy chair and small table for 'tea' and magazines/books for a lazy 'readin-kinda' afternoon. xo

Sounds WONDERFUL Frannie! (I have a cute little Babydoll sheep named Frannie! She's 2 this year-- just thought I'd throw that in there. LOL!!) I have dreams of prettying up my garden and building a green house and a gazebo. IF I can ever keep my husband out of it with his TRACTOR, I just might be able to succeed. (what's WITH men and their farm equipment ANYWAY?) You'll have to post pictures of both the outside AND the inside when you get it all done. Thanks so much for sharing ~~ Hugs!! Tracy

oh tracy .. i hear ya' ... there was a man who lived here before us that had a 'kabota' and mowed everthing that was green (including veggies and flowers) to the ground .. most did not come back!
hank is real good about not doing so if i warn him where something is .. unless he is 'daydreaming' while mowing .. then git outta' the way!!
it will probably be the year 30008 before i get the inside cleared out. NOT KIDDING! i should be ashamed cuz' it is so haphazard and jus' tossed in there .. yep! at one point it was organized .. THEN .. i went searching for something!!
it would be fun to organize it and make it part guest house and part antiques shoppe! it is always to HOT in the summer .. too COLD in the winter .. and when spring and autumn come around .. i want to ROAM THE ROADS instead of 'workin'!!
