OK so I have some volunteer squashy type things coming up.. Can I eat these, or are they ornamental?? They look like a cross between a gourd & a yellow crookneck squash. Anyone know what this is for sure?? I am tempted to slice up & try it out for size(w/ a little olive oil & garlic,) but what will eating a gourd do?? Turn you into a pumpkin?? YIKES

First off, WHAT exactly did you plant last year? If if was gourds, do you remember what KIND you planted?

Second, many gourds ARE edible at certain stages. (usually young and small) I don't think any of them are toxic, they just get dried out, sorta "spongy" and not something you'd want to eat. It looks ok to me! If you cook it up and it doesn't taste good, well... you might save the rest of the "squasy-gourds" for crafts! Good luck! ~~~ Tracy

Keep us posted, Lisa. Let us know if you cook it or craft with it.
