I've cut out and sewn the basic bag for these market bags http://womtutorials.blogspot.com/2008/01/detailed-fabric-grocery-bag.html and am going to do the straps. I also just picked up two tablecloths from SAlvation Army, one in a yellow floral and the other a beige lace, I'm thinking of a layered skirt ala Mary Jane style! I hate zippers but I'll have to do one to make it not sloppy. What are y'all working on today? P~

I'm knitting a pair of socks, and I just got two wrought iron chairs off of freecycle that will need new seats put in them.

Funny Karin...I have to admit 1 of the 3 last projects I've made I've taken to Goodwill...
Those dad-gum Amy Butler lounge pants were not for me...too wide in the legs, not enough depth in the rise. I am going to revamp the whole pattern and make another pair but I'm not giving credit to Amy Butler on them. Does anyone else find her pattern directions tedious? I get bored reading them...they are way too detailed, in fact so detailed I get befuddled trying to find out what to do next because I've already done the "obvious" that she goes on and on about. Then she won't elaborate on an important step. It makes no sense to me.
Yesterday I washed fabric so today I am working on a Favorite Things Prairie Girl dress. Now her directions are awesome. Let's a person use her own mind to improvise...guess I've been sewing for too long and just need a reader's digest version of directions because heaven knows I'm not going to follow the directions to a T anyhow...that's my stubborn streak I guess.
Happy sewing girls.

I'm embroidering a 1920s stamped linen vanity set; it will probably go to my granddaughter who is refinishing a 1920s vanity and dresser. I've already done several vintage dresser scarves for her.

Nice find, Diana. Enjoy.
I am curious, what is a vanity set? I've not done a lot of embroidering...but I love the way it looks.

Jami - I agree about the Amy Butler directions. I spent I don't know how long puzzling over something simple because it was written in bold - turns out it was a common sense thing Amy Grace

Oh and I'm currently finishing a Prairie Girl dress (although by the time I finish it I think it's going to be too big for me), and Emmeline apron, a pair of slippers for my husband and a dishcloth Amy Grace

I'm working on two quilts. One is a simple nine patch and the other is a drunkards path. I always sew my quilts completely by hand. I am knitting some teddy bears and crocheting two different types of afghan squares for two different afghans. I'm also learning how to sculpt in clay. I do little characters but I would really love to learn how to make realistic babies and of course, I gotta have my books to read and my stories to write. I am simply not happy until I have written at least a few pages a day. Obviously, I love to stay busy. My family always goofs on me that I never sit and do nothing as my fingers are always working on something.

I'm crocheting a blanket. I found a cute pattern hanging on the rack at Walmart. Then I lost it, and so now the blanket is my own pattern. Taking slightly forever. hehee I also have a crocheted baby blanker (pink and white) in the makings. It was supposed to be done two weeks ago for a dear friend who is due the end of this month, but now that I'm on the border, I just can't seem to get motivated to finish it. I was just finishing up a few odds and ends before this came to post. ;) hugs jess

I'm very impressed to read about all the things you girls are making. I hope we get to see pictures of them all. I too like to piece by hand, escept when I make log cabin quilts. A vanity set sounds delightful, I love embroidering things but I haven't tackled one of those yet. My sewing room is such a mess at the moment, but I did piece three little needle rolls earlier that I'm going to work on tonight while I watch the All Star game. It is hard to fit all these things into one day, I too have to read for a while every night. And of course I have to check in here to see what everyone else is up to. I feel so lucky to have discovered this forum, such a treat! And a drunkard's path, ooh, I've always wanted to make one of those...and I agree, sometimes instructions are way over done, I guess after a while we know the basics and can pretty much carry on...

I wish I could find the inside of my sewing room so I could sew the two patterns for hats that I have cut out. Talk about a mess!!!!!!!!

I am embroidering a clothespin bag (a redwork little girl hanging clothes on a line) and plan to make a pair of bloomers from embroidered pillowcases (idea from the newest MJ issue) for my daughter tomorrow. She is going on a pioneer trek (so is husband and 12 year old son) at the end of the month and they have to dress kinda authentic. Her bonnets and skirts are done..she wanted to wear scrub pants and so I said..no way..I will make you something cute and cooler than that!!! I will let you know how they turn out.

Brenda, the Prairie Girl dress pattern is from a company called Favorite Things (believe they are a Canadian Co but have a WA state mailing address too). They have a website and my local sewing store carries most of their patterns. It's a very "farmgirl" savvy dress/top pattern. They have a little girl size and now sizing for women. It's super easy to make! Even has a fake petticoat (extra skirt lining) that looks so cute!

I'm trying to reorganize my Studio "Fargo" so I can get in the door and then clean off the table so I can start some new projects even though I have a dozen already started. Seems every time I just about get Fargo clean something comes up and WHAM!!!!! its a piled room of stuff and I just close the door and walk away. But since my boss laid me off (I'm a Nanny) and I've decided that I'm not going back to that job, I'm taking a month to get organized and start my soon to be here Grand babies quilts and my oldest son's quilt. My good friend and fantastic quilter is coming over this evening to give my some help and hints. So I need to find the floor and my work table fast. Best be cleaning and not post. Hey!

I just finished a baby set for a friend and started a blanket for my oldest daughter. I put pics and patterns for the baby set on my Quill and Needle blog.

Thank you Jamie, I will see if I can google their website. I appreciate your help. Now, if I can just get my sewing room fixed up the way I want and get my old dinosaur sewing machine serviced, I will be back in business. My daughter has been wanting me to teach her to sew. We plan to make lots of sewing memories together.

Jami -- A vanity set is a three piece kind of doily type thing that goes on a vanity. I guess vanities have gone out of style; just don't see them much anymore, but it's kind of like a desk where those glamorous 30s movie stars but on their makeup. The sides where the drawers are are a little bit higher than the center part and they have a big mirror.
