hobbled around the yard with my broken toe this morning to take some photos of all the GREEN that is abundant this summer season. lots of rain!!!
my 'herb garden .. the MINT took over all the other plants .. i think i'll reserve this bed for JUST MINT from now on. that's our little Grace and Charles tree in the background. it is growing wonderfully each year! i always think fondly of them when i see it! http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd212/FREEDOM-VALLEY-FARM/IMG_6900.jpgimg] a few sunflowers lining the fence by the barn.
i planted tons of 'wildflowers' in this garden (we even divided it into quarters with pathways) .. but .. we also tossed lots of pumpkins and gourds in here last fall .. and they have mostly taken over! that's o.k. though .. cuz' i do love pumpkins and gourds!
this is one of my fav places in the yard ... the hammock under the apple tree .. with table and chairs for a little lunch or dinner .. early morning coffee or evening snack.
daisy wildflowers that just popped up .. i 'think' i see a sprig of 'sweet annie' in there too!
the wind took half of our huge old heritage apple tree .. and we had to cut another large branch off .. but we still have hundreds of little green apples!
one of our grape vines survived the winter .. will plant more .. these are still GREEN and SOUR! great for 'wine' i'm told!
i ate this little guy shortly after taking it's photo! i swear .. i don't know what it is .. tastes like a little peach .. but it's not at all fuzzy! i thought i was told it is a 'plum' tree.
here's a green one .. not ripe enoug to eat yet!
these are our fuzzy peaches from the tree next to it.
ahhhh .. the blueberries are just starting to ripen!
THIS ONE is now in my stomach!!! it was deeeelicious!
i wasn't here in kentucky when the cherries came in .. hank ate them ALL!
another 'self-seeding' gourd and sunflower garden i usually just love what 'mother nature' decides to do!
 gourds nesting

and a HUGE zucchini .. i've discovered several of them .. i do believe they are yummier when plucked while small though!
THIS is like the bush that we whacked down that was growing in the FRONT of the cabins .. this one might have to go too!
i LOVE my row of sunflowers i planted lining the back porch.
the birdfeeder garden. flowers are just starting to POP!
our WONDERFUL back porch that Kathy (SUGARBUCKET) and Crew built for us!

Frannie, thank you for the tour.. I sure miss green! At the new house Jeff is planting grass. I am planning of making the most of all 1 acre! Herbs- I love mint!!! I love mint tea- can't handle all the sugar in sweet tea but I use splenda in place of.. I use my tea maker and throw in mint with the tea bags. yum! So I will do herbs next year, lots of flowers, tomatoes! love them!! greens. I would like to put in blueberries or rasberries. I am told rasberries do well here. I also want to plant strawberries. can't wait. We all are looking forward to turning the property into a beautiful place and maybe even inspire the neighbors to do the same.

Maybe some day I will make it to Kentucky.. I would love to.. Hubby and I talk about touring the US state by state when the kiddos have all left the nest. It would be so much fun.. I got a huge case of zucchini last week- I made stir fried zucchini for hubby daily until we grated 40 loaves of zucchini bread worth of zucchini and put into the freezer.. yum.. the kiddos love the zucchini bread. I have been blessed by others to stock my freezer and pantry full of garden goodness- salsa- both red and tomatillo, grapes and pineapple have been canned; mushrooms, poblano peppers, and cherry tomatoes have been dehydrated; in the freezer is bags and bags of mangos, blueberries, pureed sweet potatoes, corn on the cob, and lots and lots of chili peppers of several varieties. Yum! I am glad to hear that I am not the only one who makes their tea this way :-) I sure love it. Mint is so expensive I don't buy it often. So I am looking forward to growing it myself..
