Hi there, I have a small herd of four pygmy goats and one boer doe. We used to have the boer does mother too but she was too big and not a people goat- she now lives happily in a herd that has less contact with people. The four pygmies are mother (boss of the herd too) and a daughter (18 months) and twins (doe and castrated buck) of six months. The boer doe is 14 months old.
I would like to add a goat or two to the herd but am worried that it might cause trouble, any ideas?
I am thinking pygmy does, a year old or so, maybe one or two.

I don't have experience with Pygmies, but when we added to our 'herd', we just kind of threw them all in the pen together. All of them were over a year old, and the first few days they were *quite* cautious of each other, and there were a few quarrels that broke out (just pushy head butting and such), but after several days, it was like they had always been together. The dynamics of your herd can change, though. Our 'top dog' got demoted and replaced in the chain of command by one of the new gals. ;)

Sounds ok to me, I hope things will work out..... I think sometimes I think way too much and maybe the critters will have less problems than I have.

I have sucessfully just added does to my others (when I had more goats..just one right now) and like Molly said..they work it out and it is usually okay. Adding two would likely be easier than adding just one..only cuz they would already have a buddy..but maybe it wouldn't matter at all.
Goats are so social that they usually just make friends after a little while.

Remember to isolate your new does for a bit before adding them to the herd. Just in case they are sick or have something that needs clearing up so it doesn't spread to the whole herd.
