I can't believe I never did it before. I had a bunch of strawberries from the garden (that didn't get eaten up) and no time to actually make preserves, so I was just going to freeze them whole and get to canning them later. Then I remembered I had pectin in the pantry and thought I'll just go read the directions and see what it takes. It was so fast and easy, I don't think I'll ever can preserves again. And a fresher taste can not be had in the canned version. I love how it tastes. I could sit down with a package of crackers and a jar of this stuff and eat it all in one sitting!

Lisa, Isnt it delightful! I heard about freezer jam about 10 yrs. ago while visiting seattle and they have the best freezer jams in their grocer frozen food section, so I decided to come home and see if I could find a recipe and make it and boy did i ever! I have about 10 jars in my freezer now!

I want to make freezer jam. What kind of jars did you all use? Can you use the regular glass canning jars? And if you don't mind, could you share your recipes? They sound sooooo good!! Thank you!

Good for you! Isn't it easy? My fella loves freezer jam better than cooked, so I pretty much just make freezer jam. Just put up 12 jars of strawberry, and strawberry banana. The only tricky bit about freezer jam is to make sure the sugar all dissolves with the fruit, otherwise the jam can get a bit grainy tasting (ask me how I know :)
Carol, all you need for freezer jam is fruit, sugar, pectin(I use liquid), and usually lemon juice. I use regular canning jars, but any freezable containers will do. The recipes I use are the ones in the pectin box!

Freezer jam is so good. I think I've used plastic freezer jam jars in the past. I'll have to get some more and get to "canning".

My mother-in-law just gave hubby and I some strawberry freezer jam over the weekend. I had never tried it before but holy-moly! I just can't go back to the canned versions now. She said that she uses the recipe from the Sure-Jell box.
Hubby called it "liquid strawberry" and that's not too far off! Spread it on some toast and YUMMY!
