I have to share this story with you all. I am a 4th of July baby. And this country has been a passion for me since I was born, literally. Growing up, my family, of course, had the day off and we went on grand family picnics, complete with cake and sparklers and fried chicken. Each year, there is a photo of me holding my cake with a firecracker in it. I was nicknamed the firecracker early on. I love my birthday.

And I have always been very patriotic. In 1976, I went to the local festivities, and spent the day loving the party all over the country!!!! Until I was five, I thought it was all for me! The fireworks.....yep, all for me.

Then in 1979, exactly thirty years after my birth, I gave birth to a girl who will now be 29!!! And that day, my ob-gyn delivering our baby was also having a birthday. So doctor, mother, and newborn were celebrating the 4th, and their birthdays, in the delivery room.

So flag waving comes naturally to me. I officially gave my birthday to my girl 29 years ago....so you see, I am still only 30 myself! Ha-ha.

I hope you all enjoy the 4th, and say a prayer for our country, that our people can still feel the pride and joy that comes from being an American. We are strong, and we need to keep the idea and knowledge in our hearts that we are good, and hardworking and loyal.

God Bless America.

Such a wonderful story, Jeannie!!! Thanks for sharing...I always get revved up around this time of year for the 4th. I would love to see a photo of you holding your cake, though--now THAT would make it a holiday!!!

Happy birthday, Jeannie! And to your daughter, too.

My daughter was born on the 2nd and we let her believe that the fireworks for her, too, because we usually had to wait to celebrate her birthday party until we, and everybody else, had a day off and that was usually on the 4th. I was still in the hospital on the 4th after she was born and I watched the fireworks out the window from the lounge at the hospital(I just can't go without the fireworks!).

That is very cool! Happy Birthday to you and your daughter!! I'll think of you all when I'm watching the fireworks.

I was born on my grandfather's (Dad's dad) birthday, my grandmother's (mom's mom) birthday was the day before, and my mom's was two days after mine. And to keep the tradition going I got married on my mom's birthday. So we had/have a lot to celebrate in Sept.

Wow, look how many folks have special stories about the 4th! Lisa - my mom said she could see the fireworks that night in 1949, from a skylight in the hospital lounge room!

Thanks for all the good wishes!

I love that you had your daughter on your birthday! What a wonderful story. As soon as Stella was born, her birthday became the most important day of the year for me and I love that you share that experience and day with your mom, what a wonderful story. It must have been one amazing day!
