Okay after talking about the homemade preztels and Icecream I can't stop thinking about making some, I have a great easy recipe for vanilla, does any one have something different? I do have a regular electric icecream maker and would love to try something new!
This recipe is from a good friends Grandpa:
1 quart 1/2 AND 1/2
2 CUPS MILK
1 CUP SUGAR
1 TBS VANILLA
mix together and put in icecream maker and wait till it freezes!
SOOO yummy!

We make ice cream in a hand crank freezer using a cooked custard base.

The new issue of Hobby Farms Home has some WONDERFUL Ice cream recipes, as does the July/August Country Home mag. I read both last night in bed and before I turned out the light, said to Jus, "we need an ice cream maker!!" My favorite was sorbet--rosemary blackberry sorbet. YUMMO!!!

All sounds so delish!

Sometimes, when I'm lazy, I just put all the ingr. in a SS bowl (+ a tbs. vanilla pudding for thickness/ creaminess), and leave it there for a few hours. Take it out, blast it with the handmixer a couple turns, and put it back in the freezer. Repeat as wanted/ needed, and enjoy! The consistancy is more like Italian ice cream; not as creamy as hand-churned, but way easier on your shoulder! ;)

Another super-easy one that kids like is to pour a can of evaporated milk in a bowl and put it in the freezer with mixer beaters until ice crystals start forming. Beat it on high, adding one package of grape kool-aide and 2/3 C. sugar. Beat until it's stiff. Put back in the freezer for a couple of hours. We tried other flavors but grape is really the best, amazingly, since I'm not a grape fan.

I am making a custard based chocolate ice cream tomorrow. I am thinking of infusing it with a little fresh lavender.

I WANT TO MAKE ICE CREAM so bad - especially tomorrow for the 4th! But I can't find the inside of my machine.

My all-time favorite is fresh peach with the barest hint of almond extract added. To me that is the taste of summer.

Too bad Angikay, Hope you find the parts, hate for you to miss out on homemade icecream on the 4th! My mother inlaw opted to make it this year, can wait for that cold creaminess!!
