Just wanted to check in and let everyone know I will be less frequent on the forum starting tomorrow. DH still has not gone back to work and with the added expense of my mom's care, we are having to start cost cutting around our house. Had the satellite TV cut off yesterday and today we're losing our land line and the internet. I will be going to the library several times a week to check on my STF store and check e-mail, and I will try to pop in and see what's new on the forum. I'll miss you guys!!

Hey, the library is always air conditioned and just think of all of the books you'll have time to read and be there to check them out! Hang in there, better days are ahead. I have a feeling you'll become a bookworm .

Sherri- Good for you cutting back on things. I hope things get better soon. I don't think that losing the TV is such a bad thing, but the farmgirls? Yikes. But, I can't think of a better place to hang-out than the library!

The only reason I hate to lose TV is that I have it on while I work - mostly for noise I guess. I was thinking though, that I'd see if the library had books on CD I could listen to while I work. Anyone ever use those before? I haven't but it might be a good time to try them!!

By the way, our new savings vibes are already working in our financial favor. I got a call today from STF that I had sold a quilt - first one I've sold on that site, so the I guess the Lord helps those who help themselves!!

Congratulations on your first sale at the STF store! May there be many more. We use to get books on tape when we lived in Mn and had a three hour drive to our cabin. We always had trouble choosing one that Jim and I both would like but since you'll be listening to it yourself that won't be a problem. We enjoyed them. Hope things improve soon. JoAnn

Thanks JoAnne - just to clarify - it's not my first STF sale, but it is the first quilt that I've sold on that site. Mostly just jackets and hats sold there and quilts at shows, but it's nice to sell a quilt there too!

Sherri, I know things will look up for you and Mike soon. You'll be back on the internet in no time. My sister in law goes to the library and emails us all the time while she and her husband winter in Florida. She loves it,I think you will too. Also, the audio books are really nice. I have listened to them and like them very much. Keep us posted on how you are doing,I will be thinking of you and sending you my prayers.

Hugs, Mary Jane

Thanks everyone! How can we go wrong with so many wonderful farmgirl wellwishers behind us? Say a really big strong prayer for guidance in what to do with the situation with my mom. It will be coming to a head by the end of July because her money will be gone. Then I have to decide on a course of action - not that I really have a lot of choices. I think my two options are to bring her here, which is not my first choice because I think it would put a big strain on our marriage, or the only other choice I have is to quit my business and get a "real" job, so I can continue to subsidize her care. For some reason I'm not panic stricken over this - I really believe that whatever the right thing to do is, it will present itself to me in time. I'm either at peace, or in denial I guess!! Anyway, please keep that situation, as well as the union/job situation for dh in your prayers. We appreciate it (and all of you!)

Hey Sherri,
fully understand, we have friends & family who as you are, are having to make some big changes, but you know you find that after awhile things like T.V. are just time wasters....I can not tell you when I last watched a show on T.V., but I am guessing it's been well over 2 months & now I don't miss it nor want it. I don't even miss my old craft shows that I use to be so addicted to. WHolly CRud BAtman...I think I need therepy! lol!
Hang in there, things will get better in the mean time pop in from time to time & let us know all's well.

Jami - STF stands for Shop the Frontier. I make children's clothing and accessories and Shop the Frontier is a non-profit group which helps NW entrepeneurs by marketing their products, teaching small business classes, etc. They are part of Stone Soup - based in Republic, WA, if you've heard of that. The link at the bottom of my posts is to my STF store.

Hi Sherri,
I am so sorry to hear of your financial hardships and realize this is a sacrifice giving up the internet. It is so wonderful that libraries have this available for free. We used it last week, when our computer caught a "virus" and was being repaired by the "Geek squad." I was told you can use it for up to 90 minutes a day, so that would really be a nice option for those without internet.

On a side note, I still adore the apron you made me . . . it is my favorite! Thanks again for your kindness!

Hugs & blessings,

Brenda

Thanks all - I re-watched "The Secret" video last night and it was good to remind myself to think positively. We have been married for 35 years and he has always been a good provider and good man and I have no reason to doubt that he will continue to be one. The economy has hurt us before, this time it just whambo hit us all at once. I look at is as a blessing though - I have a tendency to get lax about finances, a coffee here, an unncessary trip there, and before you know it our goals get to be secondary. This time of unemployment is great for weeding out the stuff that clutters up your finances and life and gives you a fresh start. He'll be back to work before long and we'll be better off for the time he was off. Now if I can just keep up this stricter budget when he goes back to work, it would be awesome!!!
