I like to try and add seasonal things to my front porch and always try to have it looking "homey". There's just something about porches to me that invokes a feeling of comfort, peacefullness and home. I would love to see pictures or hear ideas on the types of things you do to your front porch during the holidays. I know we have lots of creative people here!!
Right now I have a pumpin and a canning jar with hydrangaes, a twig wreath with a nest in it and an herb garden sign. I'm planning on adding evergreen and holly from my property during the holidays. I also have an old sap pail with a pumpkin face cut out on the steps and corn stalks tied to the rail.
Blessings,
Missy

The lattice at the road side of the backporch is covered in bundles of cornstalks, sunflowers, hydrangeas and purple lights. Under that is a display of pumpkins and gourds. The largest pumpkin in the display is 122 lbs. The porch has bundles of cornstalks tied to the posts, pumpkins, and bushel baskets of different kinds of winter squash.
On the not-at-all pretty end are the Muck boots, garden tools and two tables from the farmstand waiting to go to the basement, a chainsaw and the refrigerator I use to store eggs and vegetables for customers who come when I'm not home.

Right now this very minute there are 2 sleeping cats and a Lab on my front porch, dead leaves, my 2 little punkins from my garden ( I don't EVEN want to hear about pumpkins that weigh 122 pounds) and a wooden painted cutout of a wheelbarrow full of pumpkins and corn and leaves...oh and a smashed wooly catepillar And I do have a pretty fall wreath on the front door too.

Meadowlark-You always make me laugh!!You and BlueEggBabe always find that little extra observation in your posts that just cracks me up!!! I guess I could have included the dead mouse left on my porch by one of my cats this morning. lol
I'll post a picture of mine soon, but I'll have to borrow Mom's digital camera.
Nancy, the orange and yellow together are so vibrant and beautiful. What a lovely porch you have, blue tape and all!
Blessings,
Missy

Right now my porch still lookes like leftover summer. Guess I better get busy. Nancy -- love your porch and your house. The blue tape and yellow go together - what's the problem with that?
And I had a dead mouse on my porch yesterday, a snake today!
I'm still hot...it just comes in flashes. |

mine still looks like leftover summer too...I have tons of fall decorations and havn't managed to get them out yet!! I intend to get the corn stalks from the garden and tie bundles to the sides of the porch..we do have few pumpkins out there and I will get lots more...I would love to make a pretty fall wreath for the door. I do have a fall quilted banner and a few other things that go out there when I get them out..and the kids and I plan to make a scarecrow...for sitting on the porch and dress him up cute. I saw a cute idea for his head (always my hardest part) that I want to try where you pain a face on a #10 can (gallon size) it looked real cute in the picture I saw. I need to round up an old straw hat too. old overalls and flannel shirts are not a problem to find..ever!!! I love love love halloween but really decorate for fall more and leave the halloweeen stuff for the family room for the kids to enjoy.

Kay, my cat Daisy left me a dead mouse at our front door yesterday. She's giving me one a day lately. I could call it a Halloween decoration, I suppose. What have I put at the front door? Ruffly ornamental kale in two black iron urns. . . (that's as far as I've gotten on fall decor! I'd better get busy). |

Katie-ell and Missy, you're lucky your cats leave the mice at the front door. My cat, Daisy, sneaks them in, alive even, and plays with them till they expire. Guess I need to be more diligent about door patrol... but this was when I was leaving the back door open alot. Now that it's cooler, I can check out her mouth first!
Your entries all sound so inviting. I have some flowers in pots, and my eternal decorations of a huge crock with a basket on top and a birdnest inside, and a milk can. You've inspired me to fancy it up a bit. Thanks girls!
May the sun bring you new energy by day, may the moon softly restore you by night, may the rain wash away your worries, may the breeze blow new strength into your being, may you walk gently through the world and know its beauty all the days of your life. ~~Apache Blessing

Clare -- Another Daisy cat! Mine is all black and a precious girl she is. She always kills the mice but does a catch and release on the chipmunks. Give a few pets to your kitty Daisy for me! |

I started decorating the porch for fall this AM. Took the summer slipcover off the cushion in my wicker chair and wrapped the cushion with flannel that has fall leaves on it. It's a start! Mums and pumpkins tomorrow.

Jenny: We used to do the scarecrow too. So much fun! My 26-year-old son actually helped me decorate the porch a couple weekends ago and asked if we could put up a scarecrow! I just don't have the "stuff" right now. In the past, I think I used a small-ish pumpkin for the head. Nancy |

Right now I have two copper style square planters at the base of the stairs that are loaded with purplish lacy kale, rust color mums and winter pansies. Near the door are two more pots with winter pansies and some type of pinkish flower(kinda like a corn flower) with mini pumpkins. I also have over further on the porch a wheel barrow (my dad made a small version out of recycled wood and an old steel wheel) full of potted flowers. I have two gray/blueish wicker chairs and another big green pot with a rust color mum and an shorter oblong green pot with a big purplish kale in the far corner of the porch. Also on the steps next to a small pot is Pete the Rat, our little rat statue.

On my front porch there are two cats and about 5 chickens--which I keep running off to no avail. My porch is in need of some tlc at the moment.

We're going to buy pumpkins at the feed store tomorrow. Until then, have two tuscan looking pots with huge philodendron growing and a mat with orange poppies. Also, an iron statue of a rabbit and another of two frogs. |

That sounds so cute! Did you ever get to the feed store today for the pumpkins? I need to do something fall-ish, as I still have my geraniums and coleus going crazy. I've decided that fall will never get here. We're still wearing shorts and T-shirts everyday and running the AC! YUCK! Where's that crisp cool air and bright sunshine??????? |

Hi Girls! Well here are a few pictures of my porch. The quality isn't very good because it was such a dreary day. I couldn't figure out how to get them in a seperate album, so they are mixed in with a few pictures that I took this summer.

Thanks Girls!! I made the twig wreath last february in an attempt to make the best of the rainy dreary weather we have here during the winter. It did have white berries on it. We have endless types of foliage for this sort of thing. I'm going to add some pine boughs and wild holly that we have growing here at christmas. I think I'm also going to swag our porch with pine and holly as well. This is our first christmas in our little home, so I'm kind of excited!
I love decorating with found objects and things that are "well loved". It evokes a feeling of comfort and people always feel comfortable when they come to visit. I teach our kids to respect what we have but I don't have to feel stressed out if they bump something or if my 6 year old is running his cars on the coffee table.
Anyway, Thanks again
Missy
