Hi Nancy! I really like all you've done your porch. It looks so FALL! I still have a lighthouse welcome plaque. But then I like to have froze today in my summer clothes. Guess I am just going to have to get with the weather. If I wait a little longer---I can decorate for winter. :)

What's on my front porch? I wish it were lots of flowers, but I had to bring those in before the last few freezes. So right now, on my porch... are my husband's dirty shoes. lol. |

I have 2 fake jack o lanterns to replace the ones I turned into puree this morning, little raffia pumpkins hanging from my screen door, an autumn wreath and dry corn stalks.
you can be oh so smart, or you can be oh so positive. I wasted a lot of time being smart I prefer being positive. |

Our front porch is not blessed with sun, so I bought Three large ceramic pots and change the contents seasonally. Tulips and daffodills in spring, geraniums for summer, mums for fall and pointsettas for Christmas. I haven't really got the winter thing down yet. Any suggestions?

Our front porch is in transition :) we have a wreath up and some corn stalks that need to come down, and a happy waving little snowman in that window looking out at the world.. so our porch looks like we are celebrating Thanksmas at the moment, but this weekend we will remedy that. :)

Winter Porch. Took all the pumpkins, corn stalks and haybales offa' the front porch .. and am starting to decorate for Christmas/Winter. I try to keep our porches as 'natural' as i can .. glitzy, shimmering just does not look right on these old log cabins. So far .. i still have our two huge TWIG rockers (they LIVE on the front porch)! Each chair has an antique twig table (for our morning coffe or lunch plates). I have a very large cast iron pot filled with long-needle pine boughs and pinecones. A tall antique wood sled .. gonna' put some pine boughs and 'rustic ribbon' on that! .. needs more 'barn red' color out there to go with the greenery! Have some olde ice skates that i will hang on the door. So far .. that's it .. will add and change as the winter months come upon us.

I would prefer my porch to be like Frannies...BUT...I have 4 little kids at home that love the lights..so husband and kids made our porch..and the front edge of the house and around the front door and two big picture windows up front too..oh and the west side..that goes way up to the second story..are lined with lights lights lights. I do have a simple pine wreath with a red bow on the front door, and need to do more out there. I usually wrap artificial garland around the porch rails and havn't done that yet..and would love to find a neat old sled. I LOVE twig chairs and sure am envious of yours Frannie..they sound great. I used to have my whole living room decorated with twig furniture, tables and even a twig bookshelf. That was 11 years ago..before my husband and I got married..even my sofa was a twig "arbor bench"...it was really cool. My older boys were teenagers and didn't care about the living room at all so I got to do that..and loved it. Wasn't practical anymore with a new husband and then more kids..so most of it gradually drifted out to the garden where it didn't last as long as it would have inside. I still have one adorable little side chair and table of twig, my headboard in our bedroom, and a neat mirror for over the couch with neat twig work around the frame. I really want a big old twig rocker for me for the living room..that is number one on my furniture wish list right now!! Anyway..your porch sounds pretty Frannie..

Reading your posts talking of such beautiful porches makes me yearn for a porch!! I do have a deck but I can't say that's the same. I live in an apartment. Having a front porch (one like I had growing up) is a dream of mine. I think a summer evening on your front porch is an unforgettable feeling. Keep the descriptions coming I'm loving them all!!
Tomorrow is always fresh with no mistakes in it.....unless they are spelling mistakes. |

My front porch is in transition from Fall to Christmas. I'm going to cut cedar boughs and put over the railing, then wrap Christmas lights over that. Not quite sure what else I'm going to do. I probably won't get it done for another week or so as I'm busy this weekend. Of course, the day we put the lights up will be a really nasty, rainy day -- that's how it always ends up!

Jenny .. i surely do understand that 'lots of lights' are usually a very important memory to children .. and i say HURRAH! the more the merrier .. but now that our girls are grown .. it's honey hunk and me .. and it is surprizing that when the girls and the 'grandes' come 'home sweet home' at christmas-time .. they do love the simpicity of our decorating .. (i've given them all their olde glitzy decorations .. except for the ones they hand-made as children .. those stay with ME .. forever!
honey hunk did buy me a most wonderful five-foot hand-made 'feather tree' for my birthday (yep! "I" picked it out and begged for it! .. and i had to do a LOT of begging .. cuz' it was $1,200!!!!!!!! (my 'forever tree') .. but it sits smack dab in the middle of our tiny living room t'wixt and t'ween the fireplace and the sofa. i've filled it with vintage christmas balls only. .. oh .. and something i saw in an antiques shoppe that i just loved (so i bought it) .. an antique wooden playpen (with no bottom) .. which i use as a christmas tree 'fence'. i have a silk/velvet crazy quilt around the base ... different and sooooooooo charming, me thinks! lordy! sure wish i could figure out how to post pictures .. i did TRY! went to the hotmail picture thingie and registered .. but it either didn't go through .. or i don't know which buttons to wham down on!
if any of you are EVER in south-central Kentucky .. i sure hope you'll stop by for tea and cookies! Frannie

Simplicity to me doesn't equate with spending lots of money...it means being creative with what is on hand and natural as possible...I use grapevine cuttings from my vineyard to make topiaries to set by the front door and string with the little white lights...after all love and light is what we are celebrating? Jenny...one is never to old for the lights of Christmas...a couple of balsam wreaths around the porch lights and I am set...Hey Robin...are you selling those lovely fresh Maine balsam wreaths on your farm?....I'd like to order some!

sometimes simplicity does, indeed, mean spending a lot of money .. if we want something 'simple' and "hand-made" by someone else. feather trees are hand-made .. (i've made a teeeeeeeeensy little one and it took me HOURS to hand-wrap and secure those tiny little feather strips) .. and the elderly woman who made mine not only made a five foot feather tree .. she hand-dyed all the feathers .. and i am a big beliver is paying someone for their time and talent. i also decorate with grapevines and evergreen boughs and other creations made from 'found' objects .. and i have for many, many years wanted a 'real feather tree' .. and when i saw this one .. it made my heart smile .. sooooooooo .. hank willingly paid this dear woman for her time, creativity and those jillions of tiny feathers. wowzer! it worked! any way to make the pictures smaller? will try and post the other rocker .. i usually have some big soft pillows for each season or holiday .. haven't made my 'christmas ones' yet .. going to use an olde white wool blanket and some vintage red/white ticking, i think. also .. should i delete these after awhile .. don't want to use up a lot of 'forum ram-a-lama-ding-dongs' with huge photos.

Frannie - I love the picture! What fun to hear and see (Frannie ) what everyone is doing with their front porch for the seasons! My husband, Lucas, and I just bought a home. The whole family helped us move in this weekend. So everyone's porch ideas will be so helpful to me! Frannie- Kate and I took pictures of my new home in the beautiful snow this morning, so I'll have to figure out how to post them too!

oh meg .. i MUST tell you that LUCAS is my very most favorite name .. i was so surprized when our darling daughter, (Wednesday) chose LUCAS as her first (and so far, only) son's name. (he's 4 years old .. be still my heart!) Never had a Lucas in the family .. So we were all surprized when he was born and they announced his name. She said she was at an airport one day and heard a sweet little girl's voice calling to an equally adorable little brother: "Lucas, come here Lucas" .. and she just fell in love with the sound of the name.
Congratulations on your very first home together .. make warm, wonderful memroies. Take lots of photos and 'journal your life' together there .. I promise you .. someday you will be soooo happy you did! I am soooo computer illiterate .. but i went to the photobucket.com site some of the girls suggested .. and even i figured it out!!! can hardly wait to see your photos .. and snow .. you have snow already! lovely! lovely! i can hardly wait for ours to come dancing down from the kentucky sky.

Frannie- I had always thought I might name my little boy Lucas and then I fell madly in love with my Lucas and I just don't know if it would work for me to name my son my husband's name. But I love it too! And thank you for the congrats! We sure are excited.

Frannie,
Your pics are great! I agree with you. Sometimes simple does cost if it's something we really want and a craftsman or woman put time and love into it. Nothing wrong with that at all! We can still donate to worthy causes and donate of our time. It doesn't mean we can't buy some treasured item and pass it down to our loved ones.

It feels good to be back!! My computer has been out of commission for a few weeks! ugh!!
My porch is in transition as well. I cut evergreen boughs on Sunday and lined my railing around my porch. I will add white lights this weekend. I also picked some wild holly and tucked it and some evergreen in a twig wreath I have hanging and also stuck some in my candle chandelier. It all looked so nice until my husband piled all the christmas boxes out there. I hope to get it finished up on Sunday. I was pleased to see this thread still going and love hearing about all of your porches.
Blessings,
Missy
