I have a twitter account but honestly don't know what it's about. Someone suggested I use it for my squid lenses. Can you explain what it's supposed to do?

twitter in an online social network. i signed up because a number of people told me it would be a good way to introduce my new business. i am new at it..so the best way i would describe it is you sign up and post short topics about whatever you want..whenever you want.you are answering the question "what are you doing?" the posts are limited to 140 characters, so they are really short. if people decide to "follow" you they sign up and their account shows all your posts..you can do the same by following anyone that interests you. so far, a number of people have signed up to "follow" me..kinda weird..and a bit of pressure to think of interesting things to say..but some of the people i follow are really interesting. i tend to talk about my blog topics and my website... would love to know if any of you have been doing this longer than me..and can provide any tips?
