I've always heard that you should clean your garden tools and oil what needs to be oiled but I'm embarrased to say I've never done it. That is one of my projects this Fall but I don't know what kind of oil to use. What do you guys use?
I use boiled linseed oil which I pick up relatively cheap at the hardware store in town. I find it penetrates best and doesn't leave the handles oily after a few days.
I think linseed oil for the wooden handles and car oil in a sand mixture for the blades/metal parts is standard. The sand/oil mixture fends off rust. Any tips out there for getting rust off neglected garden tools? I've been buying a few at yard sales and they need some TLC to bring them back to their former glory. Thanks!
