What is everyone doing for the 4th? There are several fireworks going on close by us. We will probably go to the one in Manchester which is about 10 miles from us. They will also have their first parade for the 4th that day and a monument dedication also of the fallen soldiers and anyone that has served. We dedicated one the the bricks in honor of my Father who was in the Korean War. We are looking forward to a day of it. My grandosn who is almost two should really enjoy the fireworks this year.

Last year the 4th was horrible! We had just moved to Nevada- we knew no one.. hubby had gone off the deep end with his depression and turned to drinking. So this year. hubby is sober and in AA. We are preparing to move to a new house the end of August and he is starting in his new office tomorrow! So life is better. We will probably bq, do an angel food cake with strawberries and whipped cream. Maybe rent a movie. Not much else to do here.

Thank you Susie. It has only recently turned around so it was one rough year! But so glad we are heading in the right direction. We are meeting more and more people here so you never know if maybe we won't be having someone over or be invited out. that would be nice for a change.

It's hubby's birthday but being that he is not here, I am going to make a video for him and just decorate in Patriotic colors and try to enjoy the day. It is tough but it is one day closer to him being home.

Our little town does it up big...a parade in the morning (which goes right past our house..since we are on the road to the city park....and things going on at the park all day long..an old fashioned type celebration..even a greased pole climb, dunk booth and stuff like that. Then a great fireworks show over at the fairgrounds at night. It is always a wonderful day..the kids are already talking about it.

We always have an annual bbq for every one....we provide the whole enchilada, the only catch is that you have to bring a bag of fireworks. It gets bigger every year, and some days I dread it...but then others I enjoy it!!! The kids have so much fun, so its all worth it!

Hubby & I play in an old time cornet band that has been in existence since 1900...SOOO 4th of July is quite the day. Starts with a parade in which we ride on a several decades old wagon that precariously holds the band members, then we play at the Methodist Church which serves us lunch, then onto another small town called Russellville where we play for a small town celebration complete with food(again!!!, but gotta love those pork tenderloins). THEN.. hubby & I try to go home & shower off our 3 gig summer sweat & then we go to Maysville KY & play wtih their community band for an evening concert. It is VERY exhausting,(esp if you are like me & hate heat) but when you play in a band that specializes in Sousa marches, the 4th is pretty much booked to the hilt. It really is fun though. We have 5 + members that are over 85 & members as young as 10.

Usually, we have a picnic and watch the fireworks but this year we have been invited to attend a birthday bbq. friends of ours have two sons, one born on 7/1 the other on 7/4. They always have a big party for them. They are 23 and 25 this year. We have know them a little over a year.

Well, on the actual fourth, we're going to a friend's annual party, then on that Saturday, if Miss Wilma is still having her sale day, we planned on heading down to Knob Lick :)

Susie, hey! Rather than waiting until the cows come home for an invitation out, please consider inviting new friends and neighbors to y'alls home for an after-the-Fourth dessert party. Given the extended daylight and relaxation that is summer, an after-party could be Sunday, July 6 or even into the next week. The point is to celebrate with cake, and that recipe you seem to have down pat!

In baseball speak, the tough season of last year seems to be over, and y'all appear to be rounding third with homeplate in sight. A reason to C.E.L.E.B.R.A.T.E on its own.

You epitomize gumption. Now go party.

Going camping that weekend with my father, some friends, and my sister will come with us, too. Don't get to see her too often, so it'll be nice. We're taking the four wheelers and horses, and we're going to tent camp, so it's going to be very fun! Hopefully we'll do some campfire cooking if we can have a fire, not sure about that with the burn bans and all, though.

We will probably go to the stock car races on the 4th, they have great fireworks there. Then on the 5th we are invited over to our friends home for a big celebration, fireworks and all. Should be a fun weekend. I LOVE fireworks!!

Well, I thought about that...if he's still hanging on, it will be hard to tear yourself away. It is hard to tell, but I sure hope he's peaceful at least.

We'll be there with bells (and pies) on :) if it's a "go"

We are praying and hoping to make it down for the orchard sale. I'm having to have surgery this Thursday on my elbow (long story) so hopefully we'll make it down for a visit. We're a definite for the big hitchin the following weekend.

july 4th is honey hunk's and my wedding anniversary! this year, i'm not sure exactly what we will be doing ... but several ofourjuly 4ths have been spent with friends brad and cindy and lots of other friends that they invite ech yeqar to see FIRST CLASS fireworks at a neighbor's farm. hundreds of cars park in one of his fields .. and across the stream, under the kentuckhy sky ... about an hour-long fireworks display is oooohed and ahhhhhed at. (following a big bar-b-q dinner at brad and cindhy's) i'm thinking we will do this again this year because lucas will be with us ..and he LOVES going to their farm and playing with the kids! xo

I know I have missed reading something, because I have this question: What is an orchard sale? Sounds fun, and tell me about how you gals in KY are going to have a sale in an orchard.....

oh, and on the 4th, 59 years ago, I was born.....29 years ago my daughter was born. So I hope we can think of some fun to have this year! The fireworks are too crowded, smoky, and mosquito ridden to enjoy.....it has been years since I saw a real firework display in person, but I usually have my nightgown on, in the bed, and watch the ones on TV.
