Welcome Caron,
And since I haven't lived down south, seriously tell me how to do boiled peanuts. That sounds good since we love peanuts in this household.

Ladies, you are all so nice! I am going to love it here, I just know it!
I live in Orange, which is down near Galveston. It's a nice, but very hot and humid place! Whew!
Carol Sue, to boil the peanuts start with green peanuts (meaning fresh, not green in color). Put them in a pot and cover them with water. Bring to a boil and add lots of salt.Get them to a gentle boil and boil for a while, I usually do them around three hours. Add water and salt as needed during the cooking time. They are done when you open them up and the peanut inside is soft and a little salty.I have done them once in a pressure cooker but I'm not too comfortable with pressure cookers, so I just boil on the stove.
They are so addictive! I agree with SusieQue, I could eat my weight in them!

hi caron and welcome to the site.
i am another texas farmgirl, living in north texas now, but raised in galveston county.
have yall been visiting galveston. i miss it and wish i could be there right now.
when you go, try to go eat at shrimp and stuff on 39th and O. really good food, but more like a neighborhood place and casual and not so expensive as a tourist spot.
we keep talking about going down there but we have been too busy up here. maybe soon.
anyway, welcome to texas and the farmgirl site, i think you will love it here.

Hi, Caron. Welcome from Kentucky! I've never had boiled peanuts. Sounds like something my dh would like, though. I may have to try them on him. ;)

Heather, I do like Galveston. It has really built up in the past few years, but is still a nice place. My hubby and I like to go down for a weekend now and then.
Frannie, I'll check out that spot on 39th and O. We love to find little places maybe only the "natives" know about. I'll tell hubby about it, it may be time for another Galveston trip!

Hello Caron. Welcome from south central Kentucky. It is a beautiful 84 degrees here today with clear, sunny skies. We do need some rain. Crops are just "sitting" as my husband says it. We raise hay, tobacco, beef cattle, a large garden, small orchard and 4 hens and 2 roosters, along with the usual cats and dogs you have on a farm. Today I am babysitting 2 grandchildren that don't get to see each other very often. They are having a ball. I am too-just watching them.
Hope you enjoy this site as much as the rest of us seem to!!!!!

My Dad worked for the paper mill and we were sent from Georgia to the Bahama Islands for a year, then to Texas. So that began a lot of l-o-n-g car trips once school was out to visit the relatives back in Georgia each summer!
Then I married a fella here in Texas, so here I still am!

Well Orange is just a few miles from me-
there are a few farmgirls in Louisiana but we have had no success in getting ourselves together.
