Love those Forty's(?) style housedresses! Have a couple of vintage ones-wore at the farm- MJ said I looked very "DustBowl"!! But I love them and would like to make more! Does anyone know of any patterns? Thanks!

If you get me a picture of the style you are looking for I will go through my 200+ vintage patterns and see what I can do.

Here are a few websites you might want to check out:
Some are real vintage patterns and others are modern copies of vintage patterns. All have a 40's section (among others!). I've ordered from pastpatterns and lanetzliving before and they both are great!

Butterick has some great reproduction patterns, resized for modern gals. The "walkaway" dress is one of their most famous patterns and also marked as very easy. It is from the early 50s but it might have the style you are looking for.

Both my grandmas wore dresses like that too, always with an apron. I love that style.

Vogue patterns have some wonderful looking old dresses in their catalog, it's fun to look at the styles from my childhood, and some of them are just so beautiful. They're very expensive, but once in a whild JOAnn's will have them marked way down. Karin

That's a cute one with the princess seams and squared neckline; flattering A-line skirt to it. You're going to be a doll in it!

I think women always looked so pretty then! All the pictures of my Grandma's look like they were all so polished. Not shlubbing around walmart in there sweats, like you see now! I think all us farm girls should aspire to be like our Gram's!

Hey, I am a total shlubber. ;) But, my self confidence is sure better when I am dressed nicely; it motivates me to keep it up for a week or so. However, I always go back to shlubbing, and will remain a shlubber for my entire life, I am sure.

Love the links Bonne put up, though! There are some darling dresses out there, begging for a talented farmgirl to sew them up!

My husband gives me the cold shoulder when I wear a dress or skirt - it's the opposite of what some women say about their dh's. I think it may be the kind of dress I favor - kind of plain, housedress style, and long gypsy style skirts. I just don't think I should wear really fancy dresses and skirts to work around the house - they do get dirty for goodness sake!! He'd rather I wore jeans and a tee then a skirt and tee. I think he wants me to be more stylish, but he's beating a dead horse there!! I do like to wear dresses and skirts though - as long as they are long and casual.
