Hello, my name is Laura and I am from Kentucky. I moved here about four years ago. Before that I was raised on a mini farm in Montana. I also lived in the hills of Idaho. I have two boys 21 and 23, two step kids 19 and 24 and my first grand baby 7months,a wonderful hubby, two dogs and a cat. I grew up gardening and raising most of our meat. I moved to Idaho in "98" where I worked in the Court house with three of our Farmgirl Gals. Lisa Marie from Idaho City is the one that got me started on here so I must thank her from the bottom of my heart she is a great friend and a wonderful gardener. I miss her. We now live in Kentucky and have plenty of room to garden and start becoming more self sufficient. I look forward to all the great ideas and information I will be getting from you all. I have been reading all the comments for the last week and you are all a great bunch of people. I am excited to be a part of this.

With God, all things are possible. (Mark 10:27)

Howdy from Texas Laura! We've been waiting for you-what took you so long girl?
I think you're gonna be really happy here. I haven't been here long myself and I've already learned soooo much and I can't remember when I've had as much fun.
You'll have to show off pics of that grandbaby you know...cute babies are a must around here.

Welcome aboard!

Welcome from another Kentucky girl, Laura!!!! I'm in the northern part of the state, just south of Cincinnati, Ohio. Somerset is about 3 hours from me. Beautiful country, that--and just how did you end up picking our fair state out of all the places you've been?

There are a number of us girls from the Bluegrass on the forum-can't wait for you to meet them.
Enjoy and welcome!!!

Ha, Laura, you finally did it! I just know you're going to love it here (that's why I pestered you so much about it!) If you ever get a chance to meet up with Jonni, Miss Wilma, Frannie and Janice in person; you'll have such a blast with those gals. I just KNOW you'll hit it off big time with them. And I KNOW they'll just love you, too.

Hey, everybody, this is one of my bestest friends in the world! She's a lot of fun to be around with a great sense of humor and a great gal with a HUGE heart. We hit it off right away when we met here 9 1/2 years ago (applying for the same job!). Even though we email and talk on the phone; I still miss her dearly.

Lisa, a friend of yours is a good friend, indeed. Hopefully we can all meet up at Miss Wilma's July 4th sale weekend!!! That would be a wonderful time, for sure...and not at all that far away. Whew, another long weekend, much needed by me!

Jonni, you'll just love Laura. Her sense of humor is so much like yours and the other KY gals. She'll fit right in and I'll just bet that you'll all feel like you've known each other forever. She's so easy-going and funny. She was such great comic relief when we were so stressed out at the courthouse. She could even make me laugh when I wanted to cry.

Yes, Laura, I'm talking about you like you're not even here (ha). I'm just so excited that you're finally here.

I really hope you all can meet up at some point.

Can't wait to meet her, for sure, Lisa! She and I can discuss the "courthouse" since I'm on the other end, working for attorneys...I talk to the clerk's office enough in one day!!!

I'm hoping that we can meet up soon, for sure...

LAURA .. i think you are only about an hour or so away from me. check your kentucky map for GREENSBURG .. that's my sweet home-town .. we are a dozen miles outside of town down in a 'holler'. there are wonderful friends here to introduce you to. have you met the 'locals' where you live? when i first moved here .. our home in annapolis, maryland had not sold yet .. sooo .. my 'honey-hunk' stayed there (still working) and visited me once a month. i joined just about every organization we had .. rotary club, garden club, historical society, chamber of commerce, THREE homemaker's clubs, took a year-long "Leadership Green County course in town to learn EVERYTHING there was to learn about our county .. took a booth at our local antiques shoppe and hit all the back-roads almost every day. i became involved in every town event we had .. met many, many wonderful friends. if you have time to join your local organizations and help out .. this is a fantastic way to meet friends and learn and be helpful too!

i also started writing an article for each issue of a wonderful magazine called: MERCANTILE GATHERINGS (primitive artists/crafters magazine out of Ohio/Kentucky. My article is called "Kentucky Ramblings" (stories of a Nawthern Girl moved South). That has been great fun too!

well, i've got to rustle up some breakfast for these waking grandkids .. then take them on some fun events happening here in toledo. have a great day .. and i look forward to meeting you when i am back "home sweet kentucky home". xo, frannie

WOW, Frannie you sound like you have a great busy life. I am going to look into some of the organizations we have here. I am very busy with work.(I work at a facility for mentally handicapped adults. "Oakwood") We bought this prop. About three years ago and weren't sure we were staying. We have now made the choice to stay so now we have lots of work to do to get it working how we want it.(Gardens and such)It is lots of fun. Of course the goal is to stay away from the groc store as much as possible.
Take care have fun with those grandkids.

Hello and welcome Laura!

I am Luna and also a transplant to beautiful Kentucky. You will absolutely LOVE it here on the forum and I'm telling you, KY is the place to be. I have a little farm with sheep, dogs cats vegetable and herbs taking over (gotta get to selling the off!) and an old old house that my partner, Alan and I are restoring with future plans for possibly a SMALL farm B&B and CSA...

I'm in central Kentucky outside of Elizebethtown...not as quaint as Greensburg, which IS fabulous (due in no small part to the boundless energy of the fabulous, Miss Frannie!), but is my little corner of the world. I'm still new here so I don't know where Somerset is but if it's in Kentucky, it's not too far... (I do know where Knob Lick is, tho, Miss Wilma!

Thanks Laura

I really DO need to keep up better on my little blog. My little lambies are big now and still sweet. I'm learning as I go so we can all learn together. Herbs are nothing more than cultivated weeds (sorry!) (I love weeds by the way... I try to avoid mowing ANYTHING till I know what's in there!). What I mean is that they are very easy to grow. I just have a small herb kitchen garden right now in KY, experimenting. I hope to have a full production herb garden next year, also a production garden of plants exclusively for fiber dyeing, including indigo which is not spposd to grow here but I'm gonna try it, maybe some flax, which I will KILL myself processing. What I really need is a coop of farmettes like my old homeschool group where we put all the kids together and we moms worked together to develop programs and activities for them (we didn't really have classes till later when we did the Waldorf thing)....anyway...I am digressing....I just love talking farm, farming with farmgirls....I'm also in New JOisy so I'm spending a lot of time on this computer today. I should go weed the floweres here. I still have my house here (wanting to sell but no buyers) and the gardens are in their fourth summer and bursting as they do. This is just a suburban garden with flowers but overgrown now and needing attention. Ok rambling now....

Hi Laura, so happy you found us. I too am a Kentucky farmgirl from that lil' town called Greensburg - also home to farmgirls, Frannie, Ada Mae, and Michelle. We really should all get together - there are so many of us on here. I'm glad you are loving Kentucky - and Somerset. I travel through there ever now and then - when I'm out "junkin" - my favorite thing - but very lil' time to do it. I live on a farm where we raise cattle, pumpkins, gourds, mums (actually plantin' them tomorrow), and many flowers and veggies in our greenhouse. WHEW - always something to water, weed and hoe! But I wouldn't trade it for anything! A BIG happy welcome to you - you will be totally blessed by this group of wonderful women.

Hi, Laura, I'm about an hour away from you in Greensburg. I use to come to Somerset quite often--Paul's Discount--if we ain't got it, you don't need it--is their motto. I bought a lot of quilted fabric there to make purses. Somerset has really grown and changed over the last few years. I like to shop there. My parents and I use to come to a flea market out by the lake. I don't know if they still have it or not.
Like Cathy Cobblestone said, come down (or up) sometime and all us farmgirls will get together for a picnic.

Welcome to the board Laura. I'm originally right down the road from Somerset, but I now live oh about 1 1/2 hours down the country road north of you. My family still lives down there though. Just wanted to stop by and say "howdy" to a fellow KY Farmgirl. We've had a few farmgirl gatherings, the last one being about a month ago with many of us in attendance. I think our next one may be 4th of July.

hi kayla .. when i get back from toledo .. i'm going to have a fun 'gathering' at FREEDOM VALLEY FARM .. everyone who wants to can spend the night .. i'll take ya'll to some really fun places .. and we'll do some 'crafting, walkin' in the woods, hanging out in the hammock, gossipin', mayhaps a campfire dinner .. jus' anything ya'll would like to do. i've had 'gatherings' for many, many years .. when i lived in maryland .. i'd invite a 'doll teacher' to my home (and our doll club) and would have a dozen or more friends from all over the country join us for a fun three-day weekend .. plus about 20-some local gurlz! oh what fun those days were! i've had a few gatherings (maryjane and family came to one of them about a year ago) .. such fun! we'll get that 'greensburg gurlfren gang' to come too!

be watchin' .. i jus' have to get back home .. settle in after being in toledo (with grandkids and brand new little grand-daughter, iszabel) then we'll make some fun plans to gather and have lots of fun! (maybe if miz luna makes it .. we can all talk about a 'kentucky' chapter!) xo, frannie
